CIGARETTE MATCH PACKAGE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Normally cigarettes are sold commercially in prepackaged quantities and matches or lighters are obrained separately. This frequently causes the smoker to misplace or use up the matches while still having cigarettes.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION These and other problems and disadvantages associated withthe prior art are overcome by the invention disclosed herein by providing a combination cigarette pack and match holder, both of which are prepackaged. This insures that the smoker will always have matches when he has cigarettes since the match supply is refurbished each time cigarettes are purchased.
The invention includes generally a cigarette package which has an extension on the bottom thereof which defines a match receiving tray therein. The cigarettes are housed in the main portion of the package while the matches are carried in the tray. A convenient striking surface is provided in the proximity of the match tray for striking the matches.
These and other features and advantages of the invention disclosed herein will become more apparent upon consideration of the following specification and accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the invention;
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 22 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is an unfolded exploded perspective view of the invention of FIG. 1 showing the construction thereof; and,
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of a second embodiment of the invention.
These figures and the following detailed description of the invention disclose specific embodiments thereof, however, it is to be understood that the inventive concept is not limited thereto since it may be embodied in other forms.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATIVE EMBODIMENTS Referring to the figures, two embodiments of the invention are shown, that designated in FIGS. 1-3 and that designated 110 in FIG. 4. The package 10 is of the type referred to in the industry as the crushproof package while package 110 is of the type referred to in the industry as the soft package.
Referring specifically to FIGS. 1-3, the package 10 includes a base sheet 11 which forms the supporting structure of the package, a match tray 12, and an insert 14. The base sheet 11 has formed therein a back 15, a front 16, a bottom 18 and a lid 19. The front 16 integral with on side of the bottom 18 through an extension 20 and the back is integral with the other side of the bottom 18 through an extension 21 similar to extension 20. Both extensions and 21 have a height h, and the back 15 has a height h substantially equal to the length of the cigarettes to be housed therein. The front 16 has a height h so that when the package 10 is formed, the
height of front 16 plus the height of the front of the lid 19 is substantially equal to height 112- The lid 19 is integral with the upper edge of the back 15 and hinged thereat. The lid 19 is formed conventionally with a front flap 22, a shorter back flap 24, and tapering side flaps 25.
The basic package is formed by folding the sheet 11 so that the front 16 and back 15 as well as extensions 20 and 21 are in a spaced apart parallel position. The overlapped intermediate flaps 28 are glued and the overlapped inner and outer sides 26 and 30 are also glued. This forms the cigarette receiving chamber 29 above intermediate flaps 28 and the match tray receiving chamber 31 between intermediate flaps 28, bottom 18, and extensions 20 and 21. The chamber 31 has an opening 32 at opposite ends as will become more apparent.
The match tray 12 is slidably received in chamber 31 through openings 32. The tray 12 includes a bottom wall 40, a pair of side walls 41 and a pair of end walls 42 which define an open top match receiving cavity 44 therein. A finger cutout 45 is provided in one of the side walls 41 to facilitate the removal of matches therefrom. The tray has a substantially square cross-section so that the opening 46 to cavity 44 can be turned to suit the user. In use, the user uses his finger to partially push the tray 12 from chamber 31 so that the matches are accessible. He then removes a match and strikes it on the striker surface 48 provided. The surface 48 is illustrated on the bottom 18 of package 10, however, it is to be understood that the surface 48 may be located at any convenient location on the package 10.
The insert 14 serves to better define the cigarette access opening to the cigarette receiving chamber 29 when the lid 19 is raised as shown in FIG. I. An appropriate recess 49 is provided in insert 14 to facilitate the removal of cigarettes from chamber 29. The insert 14 is glued to the front 16.
It will be noted that if the cigarettes to be carried in chamber 29 are of the size referred to in the industry as King Size, the extensions 20 and 21 as well as tray 12 can be sized to make the resulting package 10 of the size generally referred to in the industry as the millimeter length. This allows package 10 to be dispensed from a standard vending machine.
Referring to FIG. 4, the package includes the liner foil 111 which carries the cigarettes and a cover paper 112 which extends around the liner foil 111. A paperboard support tube 114 is positioned under the liner foil and is held in position by the cover paper 1 12 which extends therearound and is glued thereto. The tube 114 defines a tray receiving chamber 115 therein which is open at both ends.
A match tray 1 16 is slidably received in chamber 1 15 with a construction the same as tray 12. The package 110 is used similarly to package and a striking surface ll8 is provided on the bottom thereof.
While specific embodiments of the invention have been disclosed herein, it is to be understood that full use of modifications, substitutions, and equivalents may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
I claim:
