Description
Patented June 11, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CLIP George G. Wasson, KansasCity, Mo. Application May 18, 1934, Serial No. 726,387
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a clip, the general object of the invention being to provide a clip of substantially U-shape, with one limb of the clip cut to provide a tongue so that the body of 5 the clip can be placed in engagement witha member and the tongue used for fastening another member to the first member.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like parts throughout the several or corresponding views, and in Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the clips as fastening one member to another.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the clip.
Figure 4 is an edge view thereof.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
In this drawing, the letter A indicates the clip as a whole and as will be seen, the clip is of substantially U-shaped form to provide the limbs I and 2 and the bight a tongue 4 and the two parts of said limb, left by the formation of the tongue are corrugated, as shown at 5. The tongue is bent into substantially U-shape, with the free limb thereof formed with the teeth 6, this limb extending downwardly or toward the main part of the clip, as shown in Figures 4 and 5.
3. The limb 2 is cut to form U-shaped member adapted to fit over These clips can be used for various purposes and as shown in Figures 1 and 2, they are used to connect a member C the main body of the clip fitting over the member C and the tongue engaging the member B so as to firmly fasten the two members together, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The clip is formed of bendable material which is just resilient enough to permit the parts to be bent into clamping engagement with articles to be held by the clip, the parts not being resilient enough to spring out of said clamping engagement but remain in the position in which they have been bent.
What is claimed is:- v k A clip for fastening one article to another article comprising a U-shaped member including a pair of limbs and a bight part, one limb being formed of two parallel portions spaced apart, and a substantially U-shaped tongue having the extremity of one limb connected to that portion of the bight part of the member which extends between the two parallel members of said one limb of the first mentioned U-shaped member, the clip, being formed of bendable material of slight resiliency with the one article and the U-shaped tongue being adapted to be pressed into clamping engagement with a part of another article to hold said other article between the tongue and the parallel members of said one limb of the U-shaped member.
