Application July England In Great Britain September 25, 1933 2 Claims.
the access of water to the hair.
In accordance with the present invention cap an annular band of elastic terial, preferably thin sheet india-rubber, havcircles the head of the wearer during use and prevents the access of Water to the hair.
Conveniently, the upper edge of the annular near the lower marginal edge of the cap, the wearers head may be gripped suinciently closely to exclude water without discomfort, whereas this result could not be achieved with the thicker material of the bathing cap proper.
The apertures in the annular band for the passage of the wearers ears preferably coincide with the cavities normally provided therefor in moulded india-rubber bathing caps, and such cavities will, with advantage, be open at their lower ends, e. g. adjacent the chin-strap so as to permit egress of any water which may have collected therein, the lower and preferably reinforced edge of the annular band in such case passing round the head under the ear apertures and retaining the hair out of contact with the Water.
The invention will be further described with reference to the illustrates by way of example one thereof, and in which,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the bathing cap equipped with the interior annular elastic band in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 being a side elevation partly in section of the cap shown in Fig. 1.
The cap is a part-spherical form I of moulded india-rubber open at its lower end 2 for the insertion of the wearers head and having car receiving cavities 3 which are connected by a chin-strap 4 retaining the cap on the wearers head when worn, the ear cavities being so formed as to provide a duct 5 at their lower ends through which any water which may have collected in the cavities may escape.
Adjacent the mouth 2 of the cap and adapted to encircle the wearers head is an annular band 6 of elastic material, preferably thin sheet india-rubber, the upper edge 1 whereof is united to the interior surface of the cap I by adhesive or in other appropriate manner, while the lower edge 8 is free of the cap and is reinforced by being of double thickness, it being appreciated that the band 6 is so positioned in the cap that its lower edge 8 encircles the wearers head passing across the forehead under the ears and across the nape of the neck and being of elastic waterproof material effectively excludes water from access to the hair of the wearer.
The band is provided with small'apertures 9 coinciding with the ear cavities 3 for the passage of the wearers ears thereinto, such apertures being so dimensioned as closely to encircle the ears and thereby elfectively exclude any water which may collect in the ear cavities 3 from passing through to the interior of the headband 6.
It will be understood that the apertures 9 will usually be provided when the annular band according to the invention is associated with a cap having ear cavities such as 3 and may also be provided when the ear cavities are absent, since by such provision the band can closely encircle the head, although they need not necessarily be provided in these conditions.
It will also be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the form of moulded bathing cap described which is only illustrated by way of example.
What I claim is:---
l. The combination with an india-rubber bathing cap having ear cavities, of an annular band of thin sheet india-rubber having apertures for the wearers ears coincident with said cavities, the band being positioned in the bathto lit the head of the wearer during use, thereby preventing access of water to the hair.
2. In the bathing cap combination according to claim 1, the formation of the lower ends of the ear cavities as ducts permitting the outlet of any Water which collects in said cavities.
WINNIE CARTER.
