Description
Patented May 14, 1935 UNITEDVSTATES PATENT OFFICE ANHVIA'IED TOY Martin Beerline, Findlay, Ohio Application November 9, 1934, Serial No. 752,345
1 Claim.
This invention relates to animated toys and more specifically to a simulation of a dog or other animal the head of which is so mounted as to oscillate laterally when the toy is moved over a 5 supporting surface, motion being transmitted to the head from a supporting wheel by simple means provided for that purpose.
A further object is to provide a means whereby the movement of the head relative to the body of 10 the toy will change the positions of the eyes relative to the openings in the head through which they are exposed thereby imparting a changing expression to the face of the figure while in motion.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
In the accompanying drawing the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of the toy.
Figure 2 is a plan view.
Figure 3 is a front elevation.
Figure 4 is a section on lined-4, Figure 3.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, I and 2 designate the front and back sections of the body of the toy figure, these sections lapping one above the other at their meeting ends as shown at 3 and being joined by a pivot pin 4 extending through the lapping portions. An'axle 5 is extended transversely through the rear portion 2 of the figure and is supported by wheels or rollers 6 while another axle 1 is extended through the front portion I and is supported by wheels or rollers 8.
The front portion I is provided with a flat front face indicated at 9 which is preferably inclined and extending from this face 9 is a pivot element I0 which can be in the form of a screw. A head II is mounted on this pivot element and can be formed from a fiat piece of wood suitably outlined and decorated to form a fanciful simulation of the head of an animal.
A pin I2 is extended laterally from one side of the head near the top thereof and is joined by a stiff wire I3 to a wrist pin I4 extending laterally from one of the wheels 8 Formed in the head II are openings I5 constituting simulations of eye sockets and secured to the face 9 directly back to close the openings, is
of these openings so as a plate I6 on which are displayed representations of eyeballs I I.
The parts are so located that when the head is in its normal or intermediate position as shown in Figure 3 the display portions I! will be centered back of the openings I5.
face it can be caused to very amusing expression toy while it is in motion.
What is claimed is:
can be simulated by the An animated toy including a wheel supported body, a head mounted for oscillation on one end of the body and extending transversely of the body, there being eye openings within the head,
means fixedly mounted on the body for closing the openings, there being representations of eyeballs on said means, and means operated by one of the wheels when rotated for oscillating the head.
