IMPROVEMENT IN DRESS-TRAIN SUPPORTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,170, dated January 15, 1878; application filed November 8, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AMOS W. THOMAS, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Ladies Dress-Trail Extender and Support; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which Figures 1 and 2 are perspectives of my invention, being, respectively, interior and exterior views; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.

My invention has for its object to provide a device for holding the train of a ladys dress extended and supported, so as to preserve its symmetry and prevent unseemly dragging.

' My improvements consist,'essentially, in the provision of feet for holding such device in a position slightly elevated above the floor or ground when attached to a dress.

A represents a wire, which forms the rim or frame; and B B B, diagonal wires secured thereto. 0 is a covering of fibrous or other suitable material, and D a plaited cape or flap sewed or otherwise secured thereon, as shown.

The wires B B B are extended to form feet B B B below the rim A, having, by preference, two bends, b and b and being connected to the covering 0 at the bend b by stitching or equivalent means. Said feet are each provided' with india-rubber shoes E, to render them noiseless and prevent their catching in carpets and the like.

The feet B B are formed horizontal by giving a third bend to their wires at b while the center foot B is continued straight down without such bend, the end of such'foot, or the end of its shoe, thus being the point of contact with the floor or ground. All three of the feet and their shoes may be formed like the center foot and its shoe, or they may all conform to the construction illustrated for the side feet.

F F are eyelet-holes formed in the forward end of the extender, and G is a cord passed through said holes, and securing the said ends at their required distance apart.

The extender is secured in position by pinning it on the under side of a ladys dress in such manner that the train of the latter will rest upon said extender. The cord G will then, by reason of its meeting the wearers limbs or inner skirts or garments surrounding the latter, prevent the extender from losing its desired rearward position under the train.

What I claim as my invention is- 1. A train extender or supporter formed or provided with projecting feet, which sustain the rim or body of the article out of contact with the floor or ground, substantially as shown and described.

2. In combination with the feet of a skirtextender or train-support, shoes E, substantially as shown and described.

3. The rim A, wires B B B, extended to form feet, cover 0, cape D, shoes E, and cord G, constructed and combined substantially as described, to form a skirt-extender or trainsupport.
