IMPROVEMENT IN BOSOM-FORMS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 81,019, dated August 15, 1876; application filed October 28, 1873.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AMos W. THOMAS, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bosom Pads or Forms and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invenvention. Fig. 2 is a front view. Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are vertical sectional views of different modifications. Fig. 7 is adetail view of modification illustrated by Fig.5.

Myinvention has for its object to provide a bosom form or pad that will more perfectly simulate nature than any article heretofore produced for the same purpose, and that will at the same time be light, simple in construction, and durable.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the wires that form the outline or front of the device, which are arranged to extend each across both breasts, so as to render the article more flexible, producing thereby a natural mobility and easy-yielding disposition. It consists, further, in, certain delails of construction, as hereinafter fully set forth.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents a frame having four sides, A A united atthe corners, and curved outwardly to conform to the shape of the body upon which they rest. B is a central bow or support, the inside strip of which, B rests against the body of the wearer, being nearly or quite straight for that purpose, while the outer strip B is curved to give a graceful elevation. O O are cross-wires, extending from side to side of the frame A, and bent to conform as nearly as possible to the outline of a perfect bust. D D are cords extending from top to bottom of the frame A, and tied to each of the wires 0, to keep them a proper distance apart and from the sides A In Fig. 5 I have illustrated a modification in which the wires are held to the bow B by loops formed by a cord, E, passing in and out through the eyelets I) in said how. Ihis cord E may be made to form a loop by passing only partly around the wires (J, when they will slide easily through it, or a knot by passing completely around, as shown at e. In the latter case the bow B will be swayed when the wires are moved longitudinally.

In Fig. 41 have illustrated another modification, in which the straight section B of the bow B is dispensed with, substituting for it a broad tape or equivalent textile material, which is also extended around to pass outside the wires 0, holding them in close contact with the bow B The pad or form is intended to be Worn generally outside the corsets, which latter afford a support to the bust. In case, however, the form should be worn without or inside of corsets, and be too much expanded to afford support to the bust, a supplemental support may be obtained by the crossbar F and tapes G, (shown in Fig. 7,) the former extending from the sides A to the bow B, and the latter from said cross-bar F to one of the cross-wires G.

H H are broad tapes or pieces of muslin, with ornamental edges, to give a more finished and elegant appearance to the form.

What I claim as my invention is-- The support B, composed of the part B, resting against the breast of the wearer, and the bow B sustaining the wires 0 U, substantially as shown and described.
