IMPROVEMENT IN CORSETS.

To all 'whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, E. KOYL BULLOCK, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Corsets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

The gure of the drawing` is a front view of my corset.

My invention relates to corsets; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts constituting an improved corset, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.

The annexed drawing, to which referenceis made, fully illustrates my invention.

AA represent the two parts of a corset, laced together at the back, and fastened at the front by the ordinary clasps or other suitable means. The front portion of each part A is provided with a slit at a from the upper edge downward for a suitable distance. This slit is made directly in the center, just in the proper place to iit the bosom, and the two Y sides of the slit are then laced together by lacing-strings b.

At the sides of the slit a whalebones d are inserted in diagonal or inclined form, and of varying lengths, as shown, to keep the bosom part of the corset in the required rounded crm.

By means of the center slits a and the lacings b this part of the corset can be adjusted to any desired size without misplacing the bosom or in any way disturbingits natural post tion.

I am fully aware that a corset has been made with a cut in one side of the bust for the purpose of adjusting the corset to the bsom. Also, I am aware that acorsethavingthe bust portion provided with a central slit and lacing-strin gs is not new; and therefore I do not claim such, broadly.

By my invention the bosom will in all cases retain its natural position.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The improved corset herein described, con sisting of only two parts, A A, laced together' at the back, and fastened at the front by the clasps, the front portion provided with a bosom-slit, a, from the upper edge downward for a suitable distance, and the two sides of the slit provided with short whalebones d, arranged diagonally, as shown, for holding that portion of the corset in the desired position, and with lacing-strin gs, as set forth.
