Description

J.R.'BASIGER & G. W. PEELY. Hume-Fastener.
No. 197,812. Patented D ec.h 4 ,1877.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII N4 PETERS, PNOTO-UTHOGPAPMER, WASHINGTON D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN R. BASIGER AND GEORGE W. FEELY, OF HARRISONVILLE, MO.
IMPROVEM ENT IN HAM E-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 197,812, dated December 4, 1877; application filed September 15, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J OHN R. BASIGER and GEORGE W. FEELY, of Harrisonville, in the county of Cass and State of Missouri, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Hame and Breast Strap Buckles; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of our buckle as attached to a hame and breast strap, and Fig. 2 is a bottom-plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view of our buckle.
The nature of our invention relates to hame and breast straps; and it consists in combining with such strap and the ordinary buckle used therewith a metal strap or plate, in the manner as hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates our invention.
I A represents the ordinary hame-strap, to be attached in the ring on the heme, said strap being bent at a, where the ring is placed. B represents a metal plate, formed with a loop, G, for the strap to pass through, which holds the strap to its place. The plate B is bent at one end, as shown at 1), corresponding with the bend a of the strap, so that the ring of the hame will wear on the plate, and thus preserve the hameestrap. At the other end the plate B is made with a slot, 61, cut out of the center, so that it can be bent over the tongue-bar e of the buckle D, the tongue h of said buckle projecting through the slot. The two parts of the plate and the end of the hamestrap are then fastened together by a single rivet, i, in such a manner that the buckle D will be at the end of said strap, which should come up close to the tongue-bar.
In the case of breast-straps, which are wider, more than one rivet should be used.
By this invention we save leather, labor, and ti1ne,besides making the article stronger and more durable.
What we claim. as new, and. desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a strap, A, and buckle D, the metal plate B, bent at b, and formed with the slot d and loop 0, and fastened to the strap by one or more rivets, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
I11 testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence 1
