My invention relates to supports for trousers. Many persons do not wish to use suspenders and such persons have been accustomed to employ a belt to support the trousers. This belt passes through loop members disposed around the outer top portion of the trousers and is tightened by use of a buckle at the front. Such practice has the disadvantage of producing constriction across the abdomen of the wearer which is not only uncomfortable at times, but interferes with the circulatory system of the wearer. It is an object of my invention to overcome this disadvantage by providing supporting means which will not produce the constriction referred to but will ll permit the trousers to fit smoothly over the abdomen without any constricting eflfect over any particular portion. My device is not intended primarily as a substitute for the customary outside belt, but is preferably used in addition there- 80 to, said belt being preferably eniployed for the sake of appearance but not as a supporter so that it is not necessary to impart any tightness thereto tending to produce the undesirable constriction previously referred to. In carrying out my invention, I provide elastic strap sections which are adapted to apply tension directly over the hips of the wearer. A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the tension of the strap sections may be adjusted as desired. A still further object is to provide means whereby the elastic strap sections may be detached when the trousers are to be dry cleaned or washed.

lihe full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features of my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing which illustrates a practical embodiment of my invention:-

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pair of trousers embodying the invention, the view being taken substantially from the front.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevational view on an enlarged scale showing the'device as applied to one of the hip portions of the trousers.

Fig. 3 is a top plan view of what is shown in Fig. 4 is an elevational view showing the parts of the device in separated condition.

Referring to the particular construction shown in the drawing, the numeral 10 designates in general a pair of trousers provided with the customary belt 12. One of my devices is applied to each of the hip portions of the trousers and, therefore a detailed description of one of them will be sufliicent for a full understanding of the invention. A piece of non-elastic material 14 is secured as by sewing inside the top portion of the trousers immediately at the rear of the hip portion. A set of fastener members 16 is carried by the piece 14, these fastener members as shown being stud members of well known snap fasteners. In the embodiment shown, the term set 05 applies to 2 fastener members, but it will be understood as a matter of course that a single fastener member might be used although not as eilectively. Therefore the term set wherever used in connection with fastener members is intended to refer to any desired number of such members.

A piece of non-elastic material 18 is secured as by sewing inside the top portion of the trousers immediately at the front of the hip portion. Sets of

20, 22, 24 and 26 are carried by the piece 18, these fastener members shown being stud members of well known snap fasteners.

I provide an elastic strap section 28, to the rear end of which a piece of non-elastic material 30 is secured. A set of fastener members 32 is carried by the piece 14, these fastener members being socket members adapted to cooperate detachably with the stud members 16. A piece of non-elastic material 34 is secured to the front of the section 28 and the piece 34 carries a set of fastener members 36. The members 36 are socket members and are adapted to cooperate detachably and interchangeably with the

The elastic strap section 28 is preferably of greater width than the pieces of non-elastic material l4 and 18, the pieces of

38 and 40 provide for a snug fit upon the hips of the wearer. It will be noted that the non-elastic piece 34 has its free end extending sufliciently to form a flap for covering the sets of

22, 24 and 26 when any one. of these sets is engaged by the fasteners 36.

The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood in connection with the foregoing description and the accompanying 106 drawing. The set of fastener members 20 correspond to a neutral condition of the elastic section 28 since the latter will not be placed under tension when the fastener members are engaged therewith. In applying the device to the trou- 11 sers, the members 36 are engaged with the members 20, and with the elastic section 28 lying smoothly on the trousers, the

14 and 18 are secured in place. Thereafter when it is desired to support the trousers from the hips, the members 36 may be engaged either with the

22, 24 or 26, depending upon the amount of tension which it is desired to apply over the hips of the wearer. The use of my device results in the elimination of constriction over the abdomen of the wearer even when a rigid belt is employed for the sake of appearance since this belt is not pulled tight. When the wearer bends over, the elastic section will stretch still further since ordinarily there is some reserve in the elastic section. On the other hand if a rigid belt is relied upon to hold up the trousers, an addtional constriction is imposed over the abdomen.

I claim:

A support for trousers comprising a piece of non-elastic material secured inside the top portion of the trousers immediately at the rear of the hip portion, a set of fastener members carried by said piece, a piece of non-elastic material secured inside the top portion of the trousers immediately at the front of the hip portion, sets of fastener members carried by said piece, an inside undivided elastic strap section, the first of said sets corresponding to a neutral condition of said section and the remainder of said sets corresponding to successive tensioning condition of said section, a piece of non-e1astic material secured to the rear of said elastic section, fastener members carried by said piece adapted to cooperate detachably with said first mentioned fastener members, a piece of non-elastic material secured to the front of said elastic section, and fastener members carried by said piece adapted to cooperate detachably and interchangeably with said sets of fastener members whereby said elastic section may be placed in neutral condition and may be placed in successive tensioning condition over the hip of the wearer, said last mentioned piece of non-elastic material having its free end extending suiliciently to form a flap for covering said sets of fastener members for all of the tensioning positions of said elastic section.
