Description

W. H. DOUGLAS. Studs or Clasps for Fastening Gloves, &0.
No."19 6,2 00. Patnted Oct. 16, I877.
WITNESSES U ITED STATES ATENT CFFIOE.
WILLIAM HENRY DOUGLAS, OF STOURBRIDGE, ENGLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN STU DS ORCLASPS FOR FASTENING GLOVES, 84.0.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,200, dated October 16, 1877; application filed May 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM HENRY DOUG- LAS, of Stourbridge, in the cormty of Worcester and Kingdom of England, jeweler, a sub ject under the Queen of Great Britain, have iDXGlltGd. new and useful Improvements in Studs or Clasps, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification.
This invention consists of improvements in those studs or clasps which are formed by a face and backplate connected by one linkplate, and governed or kept in place by a sprmg.
My invention is more particularly adapted I to the fastening of gloves.
Figure 1 illustrates, in various views, the form of clasp adapted to gloves having a button and button-hole. Figs. 2 and 3 illustrate the clasp as adapted to gloves without a button, and with or without a button-hole.
A and B, Fig. 1, represent front and side views of the clasps, and O and D show views of the front plate. E represents the link-plate of the one clasp, pierced with a slot, a, as shown by the under-side view E, the slot to being made to catch onto the neck of the glovebutton, thus securing that portion of the clasp to the one side of'the glove. F represents the other part of the clasp, having a link-plate, I),
through which is a hole, 0, so that, by passing the plate D through a band or bridge, d, on the clasp F, 'the nut 0 falls into the hole 0, and is held there by the spring, as shown at B, Fig. 1. These clasps may be further secured by forming a lip, f at the end of the link-plate, as shown by (l and H, Fig. 2, which will catch upon the back of the clasp, as shownat G,
Fig. 2.
For gloves without a button, I employ as an attaclnnent to the glove a brooch-pin, which may be attached either to the one plate only, or to both plates, as shown at G and H, Fig. 2; or clasps or studs may be attached to the glove by both portions being made with a necking and back plate, as at K, L, and M, Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plate E, having spring and nut c on its under side, in combination with the part F, having the link-plate 1), hole 0, and band or bridge (I, substantially as described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 3d day of May, 1877.
, WILLIAM HENRY DOUGLAS.
