CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1917.
Application filed October 28, 1915. Serial No. 58,351.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, (humans A. LATIONS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of lVorcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to clasps adapted for usein connection with hose and other garment supporters, and it consists in the details of construction as will be more fully explained and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improve ment. Fig. 2 is a view in section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing a modification.
1 represents the wire or other loop designed to be attached to the lower end of a hose supporting strap, and 2 is the hose engaging loop, preferably struck up from sheet metal, and constructed to receive and retain the hose holding button in the usual and well known manner, and formed at its upper end with a slot 2.
The loops 1 and 2 are connected by the metal plate 3, the ends 4 of which are bent around the adjacent cross bars of the two loops 1 and 2 and lock the parts together. The upper cross bar of the loop 2 is noncircular in cross section, so that when the end of the plate 3 is bent around and clamped to said crossbar, the loop 2 will be locked against free turning movement in its bearing in the plate. The side edges 5 of the plate 3 are bent rearwardly at right angles for the purpose of stifl'ening the said plate and also for concealing the ends of the button carrying strap 6 which is secured to and against the rear face of the plate.
The strap 6 is non-elastic, is doubled upon itself and its free ends placed against the rear face of the plate 8, pointing downwardly, and secured in such position by the teeth 7, preferably three, which are out out of the plate and are bent rearwardly and upwardly and engage the strap 6 above the free end of the latter as shown in Fig. 2.
The free ends of the strap are inserted between the plate 3 and teeth 7 and the latter are then bent forwardly or toward the plate so 'as to clamp the strap against the plate, and its bearing in which the loop 1 is mounted. The teeth 7 are pointed to engage and penetrate the strap, but the strap is locked primarily by the clamping action of the teeth.
The strap 6 is slightly longer than the loop, and carries the button 8 which is secured to plate 9. to the strap by the tooth 11 formed integral with said plate at the top thereof, which tooth penetrates one thickness of the strap 6 and is upset against the rear face of the strap to prevent its withdrawal, and also by the ends 10 of the plate which are bent around the edge of one thickness of the strap.
The button is designed to enter the elongated loop and support and hold a hose or other garment that is engaged by the button in the usual and well known manner.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the teeth 7 are made to project downwardly, instead of upwardly as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the non-elastic webbing, after having been clenched in place on the plate 3, is made to extend upwardly and through the loop 1; then downwardly over the front of plate 3; then through the slot 2' at the upper end of the loop 2, and then downwardly behind said loop, so that the button 8 may be in proper position relatively to the loop.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A garment supporter comprising upper and lower loops, a plate disposed between and connecting said loops, said plate having teeth struck up therefrom intermediate the loops and projecting rearwardly, a non-elastic strap one end of which is inserted between the teeth and plate and held by the clamping action of said teeth and plate, and also by its engagement with the free ends of the teeth, and a button near the free end of the strap for cooperation with the lower loop.
2. A garment support comprising a plate carrying a loop, the plate having rearwardly and upwardly projecting teeth struck up therefrom, a strap one end of This plate 9 is secured 1 whichv is inserted between the teeth and a In testimony whereof, I have signed this plate and held by the clamping action of specification in the presence of two subsaid parts, the said strap passing upwardly scribing Witnesses.
over the teeth and then down behind them CHARLES A. LATIONS. so as to engage the free ends of the latter, Witnesses:
and a button carried by the strap tor co- LOUISE WHITNEY,
