Description

F. w. CL'AYBROOK.
SPOOL-HOLDERS.
No. 195,343. Patented Sept.18,1877.
ATTORNEYS.
wmaissis;
. UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICED FREDERICK W. CLAYBROOK, OF HAGUE, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPOOL-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [96,343, dated September 18, 1877; application filed June 9, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. CLAY- BROOK, of Hague, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Crochet Spool-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in devices for holding a spool of crochet-thread suspended from the dress of the person engaged in crocheting.
My improved device for this purpose is constructed as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan or face view of my invention with a spool of thread attached. Fig. 2 is an end view with part in section. Fig. 3 represents the spool-holder proper detached.
A indicates the spool-holder proper, consisting of spring-arms a. B is the device by which said holder iseattached to the dress or clothing of the person engaged in crocheting.
I preferably construct the holder A of a short length of s pring-wire, which is bent at the middle to form an eye, a, whereby the holder is attached to the device B, and is also bent at its ends to form the journals or pivots b, which enter the eye of the spool O, and on which the latter revolves as the thread is unwound or drawn off in the progress of the work.
The elasticity of the spring-arms a holds the pivots b in the eye of the spool while the latter is required for use, but allows the arms to be readily separated and detached when desired.
The device for attaching the spool-holder to the clothing consists of a plate, B, provided with a hook, d, which is designed to be inserted in the clothing for the purpose of suspending the spool from the shoulder or waist of the person crocheting.
The holderA is hinged to the ornamental plate B, which is shown in the form of a butterfly, and thereby has the flexibility required to adapt the device for convenient and practical use. At the same time the connection is a permanent one, so that the two parts A B form one whole, each of which is essential to the other.
I am aware aspool-holder has been attached to a waistband or bracelet; and
I therefore claim as follows:
The improved crochet spool-holder, consisting of the spring-holder proper A and the ornamental plate B, having the hook d, said parts A B being hinged together, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
