Description

N0. 759,307. PATENTED MAY 10,'y 1904. M. V. QUINN.
THREAD BUTTON SHANK FORMER.
APPLICATION FILED 11mm, laos.
Mel/WVM.
Patented May 10, 1904.
PATENT OEEICE.
MARY V. QUINN, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
THREAD BUTTON-SHANK FORMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,307, dated May 10, 1904.
Application filed June l, 1903. Serial No. 159,552. (No model.)
To t/Z whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY V. QUINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King, State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Device for the Purpose of Conveniently Constructing Thread- Shanks Under Eyelet-Buttons When Sewing Them on Material, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of these Shanks is to provide room for buttonholes made in thick cloth or for two or more buttonholes over one button, if necessary.
ln the accompanying illustrations, Figure 1 shows the device complete. Fig. 2 shows the device in use. Fig. 3 shows the device with cloth, button, and thread-loop over the bridge. Fig. 4 shows thc loop drawn to the upper surface of the cloth under the button. Fig. 5 shows the loop being wound with thread to complete the shank. Fig. 6 shows the end of bridge.
My invention consists of a ring and bridge attached on the outer surface, the bridge projecting' laterally, as shown in Fig. l. This bridge comprises a stem of suitable length, which may be straight or tapering and round or other shape in circumference, as shown in Fig. 6.
When in use, the ring 12 is worn over the first or second joint ofthe linger, securing the device conveniently to the hand and holding the bridge lO in proper position under the cloth 14 and button 16, as shown in Fig. 3. The needle and thread are then passed through and through the eyelets and cloth and over ,the bridge as often as desired, thus forming a loop, as shown in Fig. 3. When the bridge is removed from said loop, as shown in Fig'. 4, it may be drawn to the upper surface of the cloth under the button by taking hold of the button and gently pulling' it. The thread l5 is then wound around and around the loop, as
shown in Fig. 5, and secured by a few stitches,
completing a perfect thread-shank of any desired length.
This device for constructing thread buttonshanks may be made of any suitable material.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isA
l. A device of the nature indicated comprising a ring, and a bridge.
2. Adeviee of the nature indicated comprising a ring and a bridge attached to said ring and projecting laterally therefrom.
3. A device of the nature indicated comprising a ring, and a bridge attached at one extremity to said ring and projecting substantially on a tangent line therefrom.
4. A device of the nature indicated comprising a ring, and a tapering bridge or stem attached at the base end to said ring and projecting on a tangent line therefrom.
In testimony whereof 1 have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
MARY V. QUINN. Witnesses:
