Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
SAMUEL H. DATE, OF ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPS FOR'USE IN PAINTING SHUTTER-BLINDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,667, dated August 28, 1877; application filed May 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL H. DATE, of Rochester, in the county of Olmsted and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Clamps for use in Painting Shutter-Blinds; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a side view of my device for holding blinds; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for holding blinds while being painted, so that the blind can be turned in any direction required by the painter to paint the faces, edges, between the slats, &c., as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
A represents a standard of suitable height say, one foot-through the head of which is pivoted a bracket, B, having flanges a a extending forward near both ends, and made.
heavier at one end than the other, so that when released from the blind it will assume a perpendicular position. This standard is permanently attached to a board or bench, G, near one end; and near the other end thereof is a sliding standard, D, carrying a bracket, B, similar to the bracket B on the standard A, said two brackets holding the blind between them, and, both being pivoted, the blind can be turned in any direction for painting.
The bracket B is pivoted to a head, E, having rods b b passing through the head of the standard D; and said head E can be pushed out from the standard as much as may be required by means of an eccentric cam, G,
a groove or slot at H to fit over said rod or bar, and is held at the required distance from the standard A by a thumb-screw, d.
The head E is drawn back upon raising the cam-lever G by means of flanges h h projecting from both sides thereof, and working in a slot or groove, 73, on the back of the head.
This device may be adjusted for blinds of any size, and the blind. can be easily attached and detached. It is also applicable for holding signs to be painted; but it is specially intended for holding Venetian blinds.
What I claim as new, and desire to secur by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of a stationary standard carrying a revolving bracket, and an adjustable standard carrying a movable head provided with a revolving bracket, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the head E, having slot or groove 6 and rods 1) b, the bracket B pivoted in said head, and the cam-lever G, having flanges h h, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. The combination of the rod or bar K, attached to the bed 0, standard D, having movable head E and groove H, and the set-screw d, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I ciaim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
