SHUTTER OR DOOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,239, dated June 29, 1897.
Application filed April 5, 1897. Serial No. 630,779. (No model.)
To @ZZ w/'Lont t may concer/t:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM J. SPRANGERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of l-Iolland, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shutters or Doors; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to provide an outside shutter or door that may be utilized in summer as an insect-screen and in winter as a weather-shield. Therefore it consists in certain peculiaritos of construction and combination of parts hereinafterset forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
Figure l of the drawings represents a side elevation of a shutter constructed according` to my invention and partly broken away; Fig. 2, a vertical section viewed on the plane indicated by line 2 2 in Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a horizontal section indicated by line 3 3 in Fig. l.
Referring by letter to the drawings, Arepresents a perforated plate of sheet metal having portions thereof bent upon a preferably metal frame B and riveted thereto, the edges of the plate being turned inward to abut the frame, as herein shown.
Opposing the plate A between the latter and its rccurved edges is another perforated sheet-metal plate O, the latter having adjustment to bring its perforations in or out of register with those in the former plate, as hereinafter more fully described.
To provide for adjustment of plate O, the latter is of less dimension in one direction thereof than the inside of the frame B, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, and the plate A is provided with slots b in the direction of the adjustment, these slots serving as guides for screws c d, connecting said plate O and a bar D, the latter having play on the outside of the stationary plate. Washers are interposed between the plate O and heads of the screws c d, and the head of the latter screw is shown provided with wings e, by which said screw may be readily operated to clamp said plate O in adjusted position against the one on which it slides.
Vhen the perforations of plate O are brought into register with those `of plate A, the shutter or door serves to admit outside air and at the same time exclude insects, but if a reverse adjustment of said plate be had the structure of which it forms a part will exclude weather when in closed position in a casing to which it may be hinged.
The blind or door above specified being preferably metal throughout it is reproof and very durable.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A shutter or door comprising aframe, a perforated plate of sheet metal made fast to the frame and having recurved edges abutting the same, another perforated but rnovable sheet-metal plate opposing the one aforesaid between the latter and its reeurved edges, and suitable means for effecting adjustment of the movable plate to bring its perforations in or out of register with those in the stationary plate.
2. A shut-ter or door comprising a frame, a slotted and perforated plate of sheet metal made fast to the frame and having recurved edges abutting the same, another perforated but movable sheet-metal plate opposing the one aforesaid between the latter and its recurved edges, a slide-bar outside the stationary plate, and screws that have play in the slots of the Ilatter plate but connect the movable plate and slide-bar.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Holland, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J. SPRANGERS.
