Description
J. H. DAMM.
WINDOW-GUARD.
Patented Aprlll. 1876.
.PEYERS, PHOTOMTHOGRAWER, WASNMGTONv o C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. DAMM, OF MILWAUKEE, .WISCONSIN IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,825, dated April 11, 1876 application filed November 19, 1875.
To ally whom ttfmay concern Be it known that I, JOHN H. DAMM, of the city of Milwaukee, in the county ot' Milwaulu e and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Window'Railing; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to malte and use the same, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
This invention relates to improvements in outside railings for windows, iliade portable and adjustable to windows of different widths, and by means of which, when adjusted in a window, a person is enabled to stand on the outside of the window with safety when washwingrmrepairing it, and consists in the construction and arrangements hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window with my invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a view `of the device detached.
Referring to the parts by letters, A A are metallic spring-plates or window-railings. B and C are bars of Wood which overlap each other about one-third of their lengths, more or less, according to the width of the window. D and E are iron clasps. The clasp D is atv tached permanently to the bar B, and is loosely clasped around the bar C in such a manner that the bar U can be moved to the right or left, as required, through it when being adjusted to windows oi' different Widths. The clasp E is in like manner attached permanently to the bar C, and clasps loosely the bar B. F is a screw. Gr is a nut or burr, which is firmly attached to the clasp D. The head of the screw F operates in a swivel, II, which is attached to the clasp K. I is a short arm or projection on the screw F, by which it is turned. L L at the end ot' the bar B, and L L at the end of the bar U, are short iron pins attached to the end of the bars B and U.
The railing is attached to a window-easing for use in the following manner: The bars B and C are placed between the window-casings M M, when the screw F is turned until the pins L L L L are forced into the casings M M. By a reverse movement of the screw F the pins are withdrawn from the casin gs, and the railing can then be removed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the metallic railing or bars A A with the sliding bars B and C, substantially as and for the purpose specitied.
2. The combination of the metallic railing or bars A A, sliding bars B and C, clasps D, E, and K, and screwrod I", substantially as and for the purpose specitied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. DAMM. Witnesses:
