IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,923 dated August 7, 1877; application filed April 25, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. CHAND- LER, of Three Locusts, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the acccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which: form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l'is a View, in perspective, of my improved plow, showing the share and its point separated. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section thereof, and Fig.3 is side View of the same.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters.
. Thisinvention relates to a certain improve- ,ment in plows; and it consists in rendering the point detachable, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to the share, and B to the point, which is extended, as at B, to form the blade or cutting-surface of the share. In the rear end of the point B,
and extending along its extended portion B, is a V-shaped slot or groove, 1), which receives and fits upon the front edge of the share A, the share being beveled or tapered, as at b and 12 to permit of its insertion therein, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3. One leg of the V-shaped groove 1) is longer than the other, and binds against the share, thus breaking joints with its shorter leg. The extended portion of the point B is cast with a perforated plate or projection, 0, through which is inserted a tapering pin, d, for connecting the said portion B with the share. The rear end of the point B is recessed, as at e, and the lower or horizontal portion f of the share A stepped and recessed, as at g h, to allow the two to fit together, as seen in Fig. 3, and also to provide an orifice or aperture for the reception of a bolt, i, to unite the point to the share.
