1933- B. F. JOHNSON TRANSFER EJECTING AND DISPENSING DEVICE Filed NOV. 18, 1932 Patented Oct. 24, 1933 TRANSFER EJECTING. AND DISPENSING DEVICE Benjamin F. Johnson, Baltimore, Md.
Application November 18, 1932 Serial No. 643,273
6 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in ticket or transfer dispensing and ejecting means, and more particularly to a detachable clip member adapted to be inserted at the stub end of a pack- 5, age of street car transfers with itsspaced positioning prongs disposed at the opposite sides of the staple used in holding thestubs and transfers together as a package, saidprongs being forced in between the transfers so that the flexible 0,. rubber ejecting tab carried by the clip member will overlie the transfers.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved detachable clip member adapted to be attached to the stub end of a package of street car transfers, and provided with an elongated rubber tab which will overlie the transfers and which will separate the transfers from their stubs by a slight wiping motion of the thumb of the car conductor, thereby overcoming the un- 0lawful practice of spitting on the fingers to obtain a grasp on the transfers as they are being handed to the passengers.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved device for quickly and efficiently sepa- -rating street car transfers from the transfer package, and may be shifted from one package to another package when the transfers from the first package have been all handed out to the passengers.
A further object of the invention is to provide a street car transfer dispensing or ejecting device which will be highly efficient in use and quite inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawing which forms a part of my application, I
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved device shown applied to a package of transfers;
' a package of transfers, and
Figure 3 is a plan view of the clip member with the flexible ejecting tab removed.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and-the accompanying drawing to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a onepiece clip member 1 which is substantially U- shape in cross section, which will be cut or 5 ing handle portion 3, andthe spaced positioning Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof applied to 7 prongs or ears 4 will be positioned at the opposite sides of the staple 5 in the package of transfers 2, and forced in between the stub ends of the transfers, as clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing. In this position, the slotted top plate 6 will overlie the top transfer stub in the package, and since the outer ends of the prongs 4 and the plate 6 converge slightly, a positive pressure will hold the device within the transfer package.
The slot '7 in the plate 6 is provided to support the flexible rubber wiping or ejecting tab 8, which may be supported in the slot in any desired manner, said tab being elongated to extend down over the transfers and in contact the uppermost transfer in the package. When the conductor desires to hand a passenger a transfer, he merely grasps the package within his hand, and by wiping his thumb in contact with the tab 8, sufficient pressure is applied to the top transfer to separate it from the package, whereupon the passenger may take it. It is often the practice of conductors to moisten their fingers from their mouths to obtain a grasp or purchase on the transfers, but this practice is unlawful and unsanitary, hence my improved transfer ejecting device will overcome the undesirable methods and will provide a sanitary, safe and efficient means of dispensingand ejecting transfers.
The device may be constructed from any material desired, and may be ornamented and plated to add to the appearance of the clip.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In combination with a package of transfers, a clip member attachable to said package of transfers, and a wiping tab carried by said clip and overlying said transfers.
2. In combination with a package of transfers, a clip member having spaced attaching prongs adapted to be inserted between the transfers at their stub ends, and a wiping tab carried by said clip and overlying said transfers.
3. In combination with a package of transfers, a clip member provided with a handle portion and spaced attaching prongs adapted to be inserted between the transfers at their stub ends, and a wiping tab carried by said clip and overlying said transfers.
4. In combination with a package of transfers having their stub ends stapled together, a clip member provided with a handle portion and spaced attaching prongs adapted to be inserted at the stub ends of the transfers at the opposite ends of the staple, and a wiping tab carried by said clip overlying said transfers.
5. In combination with a package of transfers having their stub ends stapled together, a U- shape clip member having a rear'wardly extending handle portion, spaced attaching prongs extending forwardly from the clip member adapted
