, P. H'. RYON. COMBINED 'HOSE-NozzLE AND SPRINKLER.V
No. 192,880; Patented Ju1y1o,1s77. Y
-Fp-ggf N-PETERS. PHoro Ln'Ho RA UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK H. RYON, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT..
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED HOSE NOZZLE AND SPRINKLER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,880', dated July 10, 1877; application tiled April 17, 1877.
To all whom t't may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK H. RYON, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inCombined Nozzle and Sprinkler; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in combined hosel nozzle and sprinkler; and it consists in combining with the usual nozzle a sprinkler and a two-way cock in such a manner that the sprinkler projects out from the nozzle, so as to be on aline with it, and which may either be screwed to the nozzle or cast in one solid piece with it, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
a represents a common short hose-nozzle, which has thread ccut in its inner end for attaching it to the hose. Just above this thread c the nozzle is increased in thickness, and through this thickened part is passed the twoway cock d. Either screwed into this-thickened part, or cast in one piece with the nozzle, is the elbow-pipe e, which has the sprinkler g screwed onto its outer end.
It will be seen that this pipe is attached to or branches out from the nozzle just opposite the second water-way in the cock, and projects out just far enough to allow the sprinkler to be placed alongside of the nozzle in a line with it without either one interfering with the other.
By turning the cock in the proper direction the water will escape from the nozzle alone, orthe sprinkler alone, or both together, or it can be shut oi from both at the same time.
Where the pipe e is made to screw into the nozzle, the sprinkling attachment can be removed entirely when needed.
A sprinkler and nozzle combined together in this manner is compact, cheap, and simple, and has no parts which can possibly get out of order.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. A combined hose-nozzle and sprinkler, in which the. two parts are connected by an elbow-pipe, c, which is either cast with or screwed into the side of the nozzle, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the nozzle a, twoway cock d, elbow-pipe e, and sprinkler g, the pipe either forminga part of the nozzle or being attached thereto, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my .hand this 9th day of April, A. D. 1877.
PATRICK H. RYON.
