ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 2, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BAR soar DISPENSER- Thomas B'. McCowamMou-nds, 111. Application- March 9, 1945*, Serial No.15811,897 (01.. eas ss I I t 1 Claim. 1
The invention relates to a dispenser, and more especially to a soap dispenser or other like device.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein water can be supplied thereto from a water pipe, and the quantity of water regulated to effect a liquid soap to be dispensed at Will, the soap cake being placed within the device, and the latter is usable in homes, restaurants, camps, or other places, for washing purposes.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein a determined amount of liquid soap can be delivered therefrom, thus eliminating undue waste in the use thereof, and such device can be hung from a vertical support to be handy for service at any and all times.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein in the use thereof it eliminates the necessity of having slippery and slimy cakes of soap on a washstand, keeping the soap sanitary by not becoming contaminated through the handling thereof, the device being novel in construction and unique in the arrangement thereof.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, neat in appearance, readily and easily operated, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which show the preferred. embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, particularly, Figure 1, A designates generally a soap dispenser constructed in accordance with the in vention, and comprises a substantially cylindrical shaped body IEI, having a flat bottom H, and an open top formed with an outwardly flared annular rim [2, and the open top has detachably threaded therein a closure cap or cover I3 to render this top fluid-tight. The cap or cover I3 is removable to permit the placing of a bar or cake of soap I6 within the chamber l 5. The soap I6 is adapted to rest on a screen shelf ll suitably supported and overhanging a substantially hopper shaped supplemental bottom 18. This bottom I8 directs liquid soap flow through pressure into a dispensing cylinder 28 formed exteriorly and with the bottom ll crosswise thereof as will be later described.
The cylinder 28 at the bottom 29 of this body is built with a vertical discharge-way 30 opening through the hopper bottom l8, and extending laterally from the way 30 is a branch pipe 32 to which is connected a flexible tubing 33 carrying a spray head or nozzle 34, the tubing 33 being fitted with a hand released cut-off clip 35. Fitted in the outer protruding end 23 of the cylinder 28 is a hand actuated push plunger 36 which controls a cut-off valve 31 for regulating the flow of liquid soap from the body l0 through dispensing ports 38 and 39, respectively, to the spout 4|. The plunger is acted upon by a spring 42, so that the valve 31 is normally closed.
The body III is rigidly hung from the gooseneck like water supply spout 43 which rises within the said body and is coupled with a water pipe or line 44, the coupling 45 being equipped with a hand regulated valve 46 so that the supply can be cut off at will. The water 41 within the body I 0 acts upon the soap bar or cake I6 therein, for the production of liquid soap which can be dispensed from the device A as the occasion may require. The pipe or line 44 is let in through the vertical support 49, best seen in Figures 1 and. 2 of the drawings,
The dispenser operates as a pressure feed device since the liquid will flow out of the nozzle 34 and the nozzle 4! when the valve 46 is open due to the pressure of the water in the supply pipe 44 entering the chamber [5. The contents of the body Ill may also be dispensed through pipe 32 and tubing 33 to the spray head on nozzle 34 the discharge of said contents being controlled by the cut-off clip 35, or as previously stated when pressure is imposed upon the plunger 36 the plunger 36 will release the contents of the body In as desired on the pressure of the water supplied to the body I0 through the supply pipe 44.
What is claimed is:
A dispenser of the kind described, comprising a cylindrical shaped body having a flat bottom and an open top formed with an outwardly flared annular rim, a circular cap normally closing the open top of said body, a supplementary hoppershaped flow bottom, secured to the inner walls of said body in contact with the fiat bottom at the center thereof, a vertical discharge-way opening through the hopper bottom, a screen shelf within the body above the hopper-shaped fiow bottom for supporting a soap bar, a dispensing cylinder underneath the bottom and having communication with the interior of the body by means of said discharge-way, a discharge spout leading from the cylinder, a push-plunger for controlling the discharge spout, a Spring on said plunger for normally retaining said plunger in closed position, means for supplying water to the interior of the body, means for controlling the supply of water, and spray means leading from the cylinder, said lastmeans comprising a rigid branch having a flexible tubing bearing a spray head thereon and 10 Number said spray means extending laterally of the vertical discharge-way opening.
