This invention relates to improvements in a screw which may be inserted in a threaded package openers, and more particularly to opening cigarette containers.

Among the principal objects which the invention has in view are: To provide a stand having means whereby containers with cigarettes or the like may be easily opened without injury to the contents; to eifect the opening of the container parallel to a side edge thereof; to make the incision parallel to and between two cigarettes in the container; to enable the incision to pass entirely through the wall of the container without injury to the cigarettes; to secure simplicity of construction and operation; and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.

Figure 1 is a plan of the stand embodying my invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view shown as taken on line 22 of Figure 1; and

Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view shown as taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and showing a package of cigarettes being opened thereby.

As seen by the drawing, the invention is shown as comprising essentially a channel shaped body portion 10 providing a longitudinal bottom wall 11 and upstanding side walls 12, to form the channel and a slide way of substantially the width of a package of cigarettes. The channel is preferably open at opposite ends so that the package may be readily introduced at one end of the channel, slid longitudinally thereof and removed at the other end.

In the bottom wall 11 of the channel is a cutter 13 projecting upwardly from the bottom wall a distance suflicient to make an incision in a package when slid across the same. As here shown, the cutter 18 is constructed as a sharpened projecting end of hole 14 passing perpendicularly through the bottom wall of the channel or body portion 10. Appropriate adjustment of the screw that the upper end or cutter will have the desired projection from may be effected so wall 11 sufiicing to make the incision as desired in the package.

Preferably the cutter 13 is positioned closer to one side wall than to the other, that is to say, is unsymmetrically arranged and will therefore make the incision in a package 15 of cigarettes 16 closer to one side edge thereof than to the other.

The arrangement is such that the incision is made longitudinally between two contiguous cigarettes and therefore will not damage these articles. This arrangement has the further advantage, in event the incision is not deep enough to entirely sever the wall of the package in that the package may be reversed to again pass w1ll result 111 a pair nal and parallel me it over the cutter which of separated longitudiisions in the nature of scorings whereby the intervening strip of the package wall may be readily torn away and the package thus completely opened.

lVhat is claimed: A package opener comprising a body portion, base and upstanding side walls, said body portion having an interior width substantially that of the package, said upstanding side walls forming a channel and extending upwardly substantially the thickness of said package, a

threaded hole unsymmetrically positioned in the said base, and

a screw having a sh arpened projecting end within said threaded hole, whereby adjustment of said screw ened end to project will permit the sharpsufficiently to make an incision in the packa e.
