OFFICE 0F BELDING, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF .MICHIGAN CONTAINER Application filed September 4, 1931. Serial No. 561,168.
The present invention relates to" containers and more particularly to means for sealing the mouth of the container.
The main objects of the invention are to provide a novel method of hermetically sealing the opening of a container; toprovide novel means for sealing a container having a porcelain finish; and, to provide such sealing means which may be adjustably. and detachably secured to the container.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanyingdrawing, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of the container j and its cap;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevational view thereof;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-8 of Figure 4;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line,
4-4 of Figure 5; and
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of the upper side of the container and its cap. 7
It is desirable that containers of the char acter herein shown and described be provided with a porcelain enamel finish, both forexternal appearance and for internal aoid-resisting qualities. It is likewise desirable that these Containers have means whereby the container may be hermetically sealed while in use. Screw caps have heretofore been used which when secured to the container, eitherv leak or if leak-proof, must be screwed so tightly that it is difficult to later remove them. The screw threads likewise rust in time causing the container to leak.
Referring to the drawing in which like.
parts are designated by the same numerals in the several views, a container 1 is provid- I ed with a neck 2 forming a mouth oropening 3 for the container, the neck2 being provi ed with a peripheral groove 4.
A springable split ring 5 has an inner peripheral tongue. or rib 6 adapted to fit or sionally fit within said groove, secured to said ring for clamping a'oap to said neck' 7 seat withinth'e' peripheral groove 4; on the neck of the container and a pair of integral- 1y formed outwardly projecting lugs 7, 8 are apertured and screw-threaded respectively to accommodate a screw bolt 9 for tightly securing the ring tothe neck of the container;
a plurality of integrally formed laterally projecting bifurcated. portions 15 adapted to register with; the bifurcated vportions 14 on the cap lOfScrew threaded bolts 16 hingedly secured to the bifurcated portions 15 are adapted to be swung into the registering bifurcated portions 14 of the cap and wing nuts 17 are provided whereby the cap I may be adjustably securedlto the neck of the container for hermetically sealing the same.
I It will thus be seen that a cap is herein shown and described which'provides ready and convenient means for. hermetically sea'ling the container.
I claim I 1. In a container having a neck provided with a peripheral groove, aspring metal split ring having a peripheral tongue adapted to detachably slide on said neck and ten and clamps 2. In a container having a'neck, aspring metal split ring adapted to slide on said neck, said neck and ring being provided with" interlocking tongue and groove elementswhereby said ring is tensionally and detachably secured to said neck.
