Description

M M, 1933. F. WOZAR 1,9174p747 I ADJUSTABLE BRUSH HOLDER Filed Sept. 14, 1932 Patented July 11, 1933 PATENT OFFICE FRANK VJOZAIR, OF NEVJ YORK, N. Y.
ADJUSTABLE BRUSH HOLDER Application filed September 14, 1932.
My invention relates to improvements in brush holders, suitable foradjustment of brushes at different angles, provided with a handle of any desired length to permit the cleaning o'f fioors, Walls, ceilings, windows, etc. at any angle and distance.
lVith these objects in view, it being understood that the different parts of my invention can be made to suit anyone without departing from the spirit of the invention, which is hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of one form of holder and Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the holder as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 3 is a top plan view of another form of the brush holder, and
Figure 4 is a side view of the unit as illustrated in Figure 3, parts of the holder being in section.
In these several views a brush of more or less conventional type has been illustrated, and which brush incluoes a bristle or body portion 5 and a back 6. It is proposed to have the brush supported by a socketmember '7 which is tapable of receiving a suitable handle 22, the latter being placed in. permanent association with the member 7 in any desired manner. The brush is retained in position by providing a holder proper, preterably of sheet metal, and which includes a body presenting angular-1y extendhig arms 9 terminating in hook shaped outer end portions which serve to retain the brush in position.
In Figures 1 and 2, the portions 8 overlap the back of the brush and extend adjacent the out-er edge 01 the same. A plate 18 may overlap and engage the back adjacent its inner edge. This plate is preferably provided with a slot 221- through which a bolt 21 extends, the latter mounting at both ends if desired, wing nuts 19. The socket men'lbcr 7 is provided with an opening 1 O a sage of this bolt and it is obvious that as a consequence of this construct-ion, a brush back may be placed in position as illustrated in Figure 2 and thereupon by adjusting and is 101' the pas-,

then tightening the plate 18 the brush will be held against movement.
. In the form of construction shown in Fig ures 3 and 4, the body portion includes the arms and end portions 8 and 9, as heretofore described. However, the body portion is not integral with the socket member 7, it being noted that a hinge 10 has its parts secured by screws or bolts 11 to the socket member and body portion of the holder, respectively. Additionally, in this form of construction the'socket member is formed with a slot 12 through Which the head 15 of the bolt 21 extends. The hinge has upstanding fins or portions 16, which are capable of being overlapped to a greater or lesser extent as the socket portion is swung with reference to the brush holding or retaining portion. These fins are formed with slots 17, Which are capable oi alignment, and a bolt 1 L extends through these slots and may be tightened by the nut 13 to hold the hinge portions in any adjustment desired. The plate 18 has an upwardly extending portion 20 which bears against the inner face of the socket member 7. Consequently the plate 18 may be shifted along the trackway provided by the bolt 21 and slot. 12 in order to assume a position at which it will properly engage the inner edge of the brush back to retain the same against displacement.
Obviously numerous changes in construction and rearrangements of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claim.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent A holder including a body, a pair of angu-. larly diverging arms extending from said body, hook shaped portions at the outer ends of said arms and to overlap the back of a brush a plate shiftably connected to said body and overlapping the opposite brush edge and an angular extension forming a part of said plate adjacent the outer edge 9 thereof and slidably bearing against the inner face of said body.
FRANK VVOZAR.
