Attorney PERRY N. SNYDER, OF SAN J GSE, CALIFORNIA.
BRUSH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 30, 1920.
1 Application filed January 27, 1919. Serial No. 273,395.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY N. SNYDER, acitizen of the United States, residing at San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brush-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in brush holders and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for holding a number of brushes together so they can be used as a single brush in painting or the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide the holder with an adjustable handle so that the brush may be set for use in any desired position.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view of the two parts of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
As shown in these views the invention comprises a holder 1 which is formed of two parts 2 and 3, one ofsaid parts having a handle 4: connected therewith. The part 2 of the holder has its ends bent at right angles and one end has an extension 5 and a pair of slots 6 is formed at the junction of said extension with the end. The top edge of the part 2 is extended upwardly as, at 7. The part 3 has one end extending at right angles as at 8 and its other end provided with a pair of angle lugs 9 for engaging the slots 6 in the other part; This part 3 is also provided at its upper edge with an upwardly extending part 10 which is of curved formation so that its upper edge will contact with the part 7 when the holder is assembled. The part 3 has cars 11 struck therefrom and bent upwardly and a bolt 12 adjustably secures the handle at to said cars. A wing nut 13 cooperates with this bolt.
The part 2 is provided with a pair of square openings 14 to receive the square ends of bolts 15 which pass through holes formed in the brush handles and through openings slots 6 so as to form a hinge for the two parts of the holder. The other ends of the two parts overlap. The brushes are firmly held in position by means of the bolts and the fact that their edges engage the ends of the holder. By means of the bolt 12 and the thumb nut 13 the handle may be ad justed to any desired position.
By my invention I may use half worn paint brushes which are usually discarded and, while my invention is used mainly in painting roofs, it will, of course, be understood that it may be used in other situations.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A brush holder for supporting a number of brushes comprising two members having their ends bent at right angles, a bent end of one member having slots therein and the other member having tongues at one end for engaging said slots for detachably and hingedly connecting the members together, the
other ends of said members overlapping and said members having upwardly extending parts at their upper edges, the rear part curving forwardly to engage with the other part and with the inner edges of the brushes, bolts passing through said members and the brushes and a handle connected with. one member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PERRY N.- SNYDER.
