This invention relates to curtain fixtures and more particularly to a combined window shade bracket, curtain holder and drapery support.

The object of the invention is to provide a combined device of the character described which is comparatively simple and inexpensive in construction and which may be readily attached to a window casing without the employment of nails, screws or similar fastening devices and without liability of scarring, scratching or otherwise marring the woodwork.

A further object of the invention is to provide a curtain fixture including spaced clamping members adapted to grip the adjacent vertical edgesof a window casing and having their inner ends united by a flexible connecting strap, means being provided for effecting longitudinal adjustment of the connecting strap to securely hold said clamping members against accidental displacement.

A further object is to provide a curtain fixture which can be used with equally good results either on a single window or on a series of connected windows, the shade brackets being adjustable on the connecting strap to accommodate the shades of the intermediate window or windows when said windows are constructed in a series.

A further object is to construct the clamping members in the form of plates having a plurality of threaded openings therein adapted to receive fastening screws carried by the shade and curtain brackets respectively whereby to permit vertical and lateral adjustment of said brackets with respect to the plates.

A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efiiciency.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a series of windows showing my combined shade bracket, curtain holder and drapery support thereon,

Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the clamping-plates and its associated parts detached,

Figure 4 is a plan view showing the right and left-hand plates constituting the clamping members before they are bent into shape, and

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 5--5 of Figure l.

The combined window shade bracket, curtain holder and drapery support forming the subjectmatter of the present invention may be used in connection with either a single window or a series of connected windows and by way of illustration is shown in Figure 1 of the drawings applied to a pluralityof windows 5 slidably mounted in a casing, indicated at 6.

The device comprises right and left-hand clamping members 1 and 8 each preferably formedfrom a flat metallic plate having its outer edge bent laterally on fold lines 9 to form an angularly disposed clamping'fiange I0 adapted to bear against the adjacent vertical edge of the window casing 6 at the upper end thereof, as best shown in Figure l of the drawings. The inner end of the clamping member 8 is bent outwardly in a direction opposite to the flange ID to form a lateral lug l I having an opening l2 formed therein for the reception of a threaded bolt l3. The inner end of the other clamping member 1 is reduced, at M, and providedwith spaced vertical slots l5 through which is threaded the adjacent end of a flexible connecting strap IS. The other end of the connecting strap I6 is passed or threaded through spaced slots I! in an anchoring plate I8, the latter being provided with a terminal lateral lug H) which registers with the lug II and is provided with an opening adapted to receive the bolt IS. A nut 20 engages the threads on the bolt l3 and bears against the inner face of the lateral lug I!) so that by rotating the bolt 13 the connecting strap l 6 may be adjusted longitudinally to securely hold the clamping members 1 and 8 in contact with the window casing without the employment of screws, nails and similar fastening devices. The clamping members 1 and 8 are formed with a plurality .of threaded openings 2i, and mounted on said members at the openings 25 therein is a shade bracket 22 of standard construction and a curtain bracket 23.

The brackets 22 and 23 may be adjusted both vertically and laterally of the clamping members and are held in a fixed position thereon by screws 24 extending through the adjacent openings 2|, as best shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. Secured to each of the clamping members adjacent the clamping flange Ill thereof is a substantially U-shaped bracket 25 having its outer or closed end formed with vertical openings 26 in which is rotatably mounted for swinging movement a drapery support 21, indicated by dotted lines in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.

When the device is used on a single window, the curtain brackets and shade brackets will be secured directly to the clamping members I and 8, respectively, and the flanges ll] of said brackets are forced into frictional engagement with the adjacent vertical edges of the window casing by adjusting the bolt l3 which, as previously stated, exerts a tension on the connecting strap l6 and clamps the members I and 8 firmly in engagement with said window casing. In order to remove the device, it is merely necessary to loosen the bolt l3 when the entire device, as a unit, may be removed from the window casing.

When the device is to be applied to a series of connected windows, I employ a series of intermediate shade brackets 28 which are slidably mounted on the connecting strap [6, as shown in Figure 5, so as to permit said intermediate brackets to be adjusted to the proper position at the opposite sides of the intermediate windows, as best shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. These intermediate brackets 28 are provided at their upper ends with depending guide lips 29 which fit over the upper edge of the connecting strap [6 while the lower ends thereof are formed with openings in which are rotatably mounted adjusting screws 30. The heads 3| of the adjusting screws 30 bear against the adjacent portion of the window casing and are for the purpose of forming a firm support for the lower ends of the brackets in case the intermediate portion of the window frame is ofiset with respect to the outer wall of the casing. By adjusting the brackets 28 longitudinally of the connecting strap l 6, said brackets may be positioned at the proper place with respect to the intermediate Windows of the series so as to accommodate the shade rollers. When the device is used on a window casing having a series of windows slidably mounted therein, the clamping members i and 8 are positioned on the vertical edges of the window casing 6 and the adjusting screw rotated to regulate the tension on the connecting strap to clamp the brackets against the window casing in the manner before described.

The intermediate brackets 28 are then adjusted longitudinally of the connecting strap to the desired position and the individual shades mounted therein.

It will thus be seen that there is provided the combined window shade bracket, curtain holder and drapery support which may be quickly and conveniently applied to or removed from a window casing without the employment of nails or similar fastening devices and which will not scratch, mar or otherwise disfigure the window casing.

It will, of course, be understood that the devices may be made in different sizes and shapes and nickeled, japanned or otherwise ornamented to give them a neat attractive appearance.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A device of the class described comprising spaced clamping members having lateral flanges "adapted to grip a window'casing, curtain fixtures carried by said members, an adjustable strap connecting the clamping members, intermediate shade brackets slidably mounted on the concarried by the clamping members, intermediate shade brackets slidably mounted on the connecting strap and each having its upper end bent downwardly to form a guide lip bearing against the adjacent face of the connecting strap, adjusting screws extending through the lower ends of the intermediate shade brackets and having their inner ends provided with enlarged heads adapted to bear against the window casing, and clamping nuts engaging the adjusting screws and bearing against the adjacent faces of the intermediate brackets.
