Description

Deco 8, W. S. CUTTING GOMBIIINEHIv SHADE AND CURTAIN FIXTURE Filed June 9. 1923 Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM S. CUTTING, OF CHEBOYGAN, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED SHADE AND CURTAIN FIXTURE.
Application filed .Tune 9,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l', WILLIAQI S. CUTTING, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Cheboygan, in the county ot Cheboygan and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Shade and C urtain Fixture, ot which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shade and curtain iixtures, and more particularly to an improved combination lixture especially adapted for adjustment to various sizes ot windows whereby window shades and curtains may be hung in position without the use of any other structure.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a front elevation of the device constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a plan view ot the saine.
Figure 3 is a cross sect-ion taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure fl is an end elevation, and
Figure 5 is a detailed section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, the curtain rod l comprises two sections 2 and 3, section 2 being a straight length of metal or other suitable material, and the sect-ion 3 being in the :torin of a channel throughout the greater portion of its length, whereby the section 2 may be slidably mounted in the channel for permitting the telescopic adjustment ot the two sections whereby they may be longitudinally adjusted to the desired lengt-h. Each section 2 and 3 is provided with an inwardly curved extension a, and the cury ed sections l of the member 2 is provided with a fastening plate adapted to be fastened by screws or nails 5 to the window casing. This fastening plate is also provided with an inwardly turned support-ing bracket 6 and an outwardly turned supporting bracket 7, either one ot which may receive the spindle of an ordinary spring shade roller. The opposite section 3 is also provided with a Jfastening plate 8 shown to advantage in Figure 5, and provided with slots 9 to receive the fastening screws 10, the slots 9 being shaped so that 1923. serial No. 644,363.
the heads of the fastening screws lO may be passed through the large ends of the slot, while the shanks of the screws` may be received in the small ends thereof, thus permitting the fastening plate 8 to be mounted or deinounted without removing the fastening screws l0. VThis fastening plate also provided with the supporting brackets ll and l2 which are similar to the brackets 6 and 7, and these are adapted to receive t-he opposite ends of the ordinary spring shade roller.
Then t-he -device is to be used, the .section 2 will be mounted upon the window casing by fastening the fastening plate securely in position by the securing members 5. The fastening members 10 at the opposite side of the window casing' may then be properly located with respect to tne irst fastening device-s and the movable section 3 may then be telescopically adjusted on the stationary section 2 until the slots 9 are in a position to register with the fastening element 10, whereby the Jfastening plate S may be secured in position thus bringing the brackets 6 and 7 in alignment with the corresponding brackets 11 and l2 respectively. The shade roller of an ordinary spring window shade may then be mounted in brackets by placing the pintles in the recesses provided for that purpose and a curtain or drapery may be suspended from the rod l formed by the two telescopic sections 2 and 3.
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing trom t-hc spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
lVhat I claim is:
A curtain fixture comprising a strip of sheet metal arcuately curved near one end and provided with a plane plate portion, oppositely disposed ears formed at the opposite edges of the plate portion and below the curved portion of the strip the upper edge of the lower ear at one side of the plate portion being located below the lower edge ot thc upper ear at the opposite side edge of the plate portion.
In testimony whereof, I have aiiixed my signature.
WILLIAM S. CUTTING.
