This invention relates to folding boxes; and more particularly, those formed from a single blank.
The prime object of my invention is to produce a box having sides, to and bottom and a closure flap, all formed from a single blank. Another object is to provide means in such a box whereby the contents may be readily dispensed by way of a thumb slide formed Other objects will be disclosed in the specification and claims forming a part here- In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan of the blank;
v Figure 2 is a perspective showing the box partly assembled;'and I Figure 3 is a perspective showing the box in assembled position.
Referring to the drawing in which like parts are designated by similar numerals:
Numeral'4 designates a front flap having an elongated thumb slide 5 formed therein and a sight opening 6 in the form of a circle and a notch 7. A bottom flap 8 is separated by score lines v9 and 10 from the front flap 4 and back flap 11. A tab 12 extends from the back flap 11 and is adapted to be seecured to a top flap 13.
. Extending from the front flap 4 and separated by score lines 14 and 15 from the front flap 4 and a reinforcing flap 16 is formed a side flap 17. Extending from the reinforcing fiap 16 and formed by score lines 18 7 and 19 is formed side fiap20. Extending from the side flap 20 is a closure member' 21 havlng a notch 22 formed therein to coincide with the elongated thumb slide 5.
As actually used, the blank will be folded along score lines 14 and 15 to form side flap 17 and along score lines 9 and 10 to form a bottom flap-8. The reinforcing flap 16 will then be folded to coincide with the front flap 4 and the side flap 20 folded along lines 18 and 19 so that closure member 21 may be inserted under the front flap 4. The back flap. 11 will then be folded overthe reinforcing fla 16, the tab .12 being folded under the top ap 13 and secured in place.
Thispresents a box which may easily be collapsed by removing the closure member 21 from under the front flap 4 and the reinforcing flap 16 pushed inwardly so that side flap 17 will collapse. The top 13 and pushed.
inthe box and the brand or variety shown through the sight opening 6 and dispensed by the purchaser inserting his thumb through. t a
thumb slide 5 and moving the cigars or other merchandise toward the point of delivery, which in this instance is closure member 21. The closure member 21 may be very readily opened due to the notch 7 formed in the front flap 4, which permits the user to placehis thumb in contact with the closur member 21.
It is obvious that a very similar box can .be formed by folding the back flap 11 on the inside of reinforcing flap 16, which disclosure comes within the scope of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. A blank for a foldable box comprising a front face, a'flap extending from one side of the front face, said flap foldable to form the sides, a reinforcing flap and aclosure member, a second flap extending from an end of the front face foldable to form a bottom and back and having a securing tab on its end, said front face having a securin adapted to contact with the last mentioned securing .tab to form an end of the box, said tab reinforcing flap adapted to form means to permit the front face, ends and back to col-v lapse when empty upon said reinforcing flap being pushed. r
2. A foldable box comprising a front, top, bottom and back member formed from a single piece of material, a flap extending from one end of said box and upon being folded adapted to form the sides, a reinforcing memher and a closure member, the reinforcing flap adapted to form means to permit the top,
bottom and back to collapse when the box is empty upon the reinforcing flap being In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
