Description

May 15, 1934. 1. H. DUBE MATCH BOX Filed Sept. 25, 1953 a box wherein it will Patented May 15, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a box construction and more especially to match boxes designed for use in a holder.
An object of the invention is the provision of facilitate the discharge singly of the matches while being used with a holder, the box in its construction being of novel form.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a box wherein in the construction thereof it eliminates approximately one-third of material, such as cardboard, as against other boxes, and also the sanding operation for scratch sections upon the box is entirely eliminated, while the box can be loaded from the match making ma-. chine with ease and dispatch, the box' being adaptable for wood matches.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a box of this character which is extremely simple in its make-up, reliable and eificient for the dispensing of holder, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the in vention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box constructed in accordance with the invention and within a holder for the dispensing of the match contents of such box.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the box removed from the holder and conditioned for confining its contents of matches.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the box is made.
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the blank partially folded in the erection of the box.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally the box and B a special type of holder therefor to permit the convenient dispensing of the contents of the box, namely, wooden matches.
This box A is made from a single blank of material, such as comparatively thin cardboard, the blank being cut and bent to provide a body and cover section, these being unitary and including the front 10, back 11, sides 12, ends 13. end tongues 14 and cover flaps 15 and 16, respectively. The front 10, back 11 and ends 13 are folded upon crease or weakened lines 17 for the shaping of the blank into a body formation, while the tongues 14 are foldable on crease or weakened matches when carried in a the body of the box lines 18 and likewise the flaps 15 and 16 are foldable on crease lines 19.
In the erection or building of the box body as before stated, the sides 12 are folded at right angles to the front and back 10 and 11, with the tongues 14 folded inwardly at right angles to the sides 12 to overlap one another and the ends 13 folded onto the overlapped tongue, these ends being made fast in hesive (not shown).
The front 10, which is the cover section, is closed onto the body with the flaps 15 and 16 exteriorly thereof, these being made fast in place by adhesive (not shown).
In the filling of the body of the box the cover section 10 is left open and upon filling closed.
Out from the lowermost end of the front 10 is a substantially triangular piece 20 which constitutes a guard and at the smaller end of this piece 20 is a tab-like projection 21, the piece 20 being susceptible of hinge action at one end of and next to the hinge axis of said piece the opening 22 formed by said piece in the front 10 isof a width corresponding to the length of a match 23 so that the match contents of the box can be singly delivered through this opening 22 and guided by the guard 20 for acquisition by a user.
In the mounting of the box in the holder B it is set upon the end next to the opening 22 and the piece 20 is pulled outwardly to be extracted from the opening 22 in the front 10, whereupon this piece will be supported in its open position by the holder B and the matches contained within the box will be exposed through said opening, while a single match of the wood kind can be dispensed or extracted conveniently by a user through the lower portion of the opening 22, as should" be obvious. The superposed matches grouped within the box will gravitate to dispensing position for single delivery through the opening 22 in the front 10 of the body of the box.
What is claimed is:
A box of the kind described comprising a body having a vertical front wall, and a swinging tongue of substantially triangular shape cut from the front wall at its lowermost end and having a wider portion next to said lowermost end and bendable outwardly and downwardly at varying anges for the formation of an opening in said front wall of a shape alike to said tongue and the latter in confronting relation to said opening, the opening at its wider portion being of slightly greater extent than the through.
