This invention relates to containers and, more particularly, to containers for packaging and dispensing articles, such for example, as razor blades, and for providing a receptacle for the used articles.

One object of the invention is to provide a combined packaging and dispensing container and a holder for used razor blades, the combined dispensing and disposal container being simple 0 in construction and convenient in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a container of the class described having provision for the packaging therein of a large number of articles, such as razor blades, and constructed in such manner that the space for the disposal of the used blades increases progressively as the articles are dispensed.

A further object of the invention is to provide a packaging container, such as a cardboard box, having closure flaps at its opposite ends and pro vided with an inner receptacle movably mounted within the container in engagement with the walls of the latter, the container being provided with slots for the removal of individual blades therefrom and for the insertion of the used blades into the inner receptacle, while the closure flaps remain closed.

A yet further object of the invention is generally to improve packaging, dispensing and disposal containers for razor blades or similar articles.

The above objects of the invention and other objects ancillary thereto will best be understood from the following description considered with reference to the accompanying drawing.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the container i0 made in accordance with the present invention, comprises a packaging paper-box or carton I 2 which may be folded from a single blank in accordance with the conventional method of making paper boxes. The packaging container i2 comprises front and rear walls l4 and I6, respectively, spaced from each other somewhat more than the width of a razor blade envelope of the usual type, and side walls It spaced from each other by an amount somewhat larger than the length of the razor blade envelope. In other words, container l2 has a cross section which conforms in shape but is somewhat larger than the envelope containing a razor blade. The container is closed at one end thereof by a closure flap 2d integral with front wall it at the connecting portions 22 at the bottom of said front wall. Said closure flap 28 has a folded tab 2% which customarily is received within the container in engagement with the rear wall it thereof.

As clearly shownin Figs. 1 and 3, and closure 29 and the adjacent edge portion of front wall it are formed to provide a slot 26 enlarged intermediate the ends thereof, as shown, to provide a finger grip for the convenient removal of individual blades from the container. The blades, indicated generally by the reference numeral 28, are disposed in stacked relation within the container and can be readily withdrawn, preferably one at a time, from the container through said opening 26. The opposite end of the container is closed by a closure flap 36 which is similar in all respects to closure flap 20, except that there is no opening formed therein. Tabs 35 are formed integrally with said side walls 58 adjacent closure '28 and similar tabs may be formed at the opposite end of the container.

The container 52 is provided with means disposed therein for receiving used blades." Said means comprises a receptacle 32, preferably such as that illustrated in Fig. 2. The receptacle 32 is preferably a paper box of such size and shape as to slidably engage the inner walls of container l2. Said container is closed at its bottom 36 and is open at its top 36. Also, said container has an opening 38 in its wall 0 to permit insertion of the used blades therein when the receptacle is close to the end of the container opposite the dispensing end thereof. In this connection, it will be observed that the front wall Id of container i2 is provided with a blade-inserting slot 52 which communicates with receptacle 32 through opening 38 in the latter, when saidreceptacle is in the extreme position illustrated in Fig. 1, and it will be understood that blade-inser tion slot communicates with receptacle 32 through the open top thereof when said receptacle is below said slot.

The size of container l2 may vary but as customarily used a comparatively large quantity of razor blades, say or 100, in accordance with commercial practice, is packaged therein. When bid the packaging chamber of said container is full,

receptacle 32 is close to or engages the adjacent is close to or engages closure 20. As the blades are dispensed, receptacle 32 can follow the movement of the adjacent endmost blade toward the dispensing opening 26 and in this moving toward said opening the chamber for the disposal of the blades is progressively enlarged. It will be understood that receptacle 32 is preferably designed so that it moves automatically toward the closure member under the weight of the used blades placed therein. This makes it unnecessary to manually move the receptacle 32 for enlarging the disposal chamber.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 4, the container Illa is of substantially the same construction and includes the same parts as those provided in the formof the invention illustrated in Fig. 1, except that the packaging container l2a in this form of the invention may be somewhat narrower than the container l2 shown in Fig. 1 because the dispensing slot 26a extends for the full width of front wall a, and the hinged communication between said front wall and the end closure flap 20a have been eliminated. Said closure flap 20a may be secured in position in any suitable way. For example, as here shown, said closure may be hinged integrally or otherwise to the side wall IBa as indicated at 22a and may have a tab portion 24a inserted within the container and secured to the adjacent end wall |8a thereof. The closure 30a at the opposite end of the container may be of any suitable type.

Thus, it is seen that the constructions herein shown and described are well adapted to accomplish the several objects of the present invention. It will be understood, however, that while I have shown two forms of the invention, the latter may be embodied otherwise than as here shown and that in each of the illustrated embodiments certain changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made and will occur to skilled artisans in view of the present disclosure. Therefore, I do not wish to be limited precisely to the constructions herein shown or to either of them, except as may be required by the appended claims considered with reference to the prior art.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A container of the class described having a packaging and dispensing chamber adapted to contain a plurality of articles; and provided, at the lower end of the container, with a narrow slot for the dispensing of individual articles from the bottom of said chamber while the latter remains closed at said end of the container, and means disposed in said container, at the end of the container remote from said article removal opening, providing a disposal chamber for the used articles dispensed from said first mentioned chamber, said means comprising a separate receptacle movably mounted within said container in engagement with the latter, said receptacle being progressively movable toward said first mentioned end of the container as room therefor is made when the articles are successively removed from said dispensing chamber, said container being'otherwise closed at its opposite ends and having a slot in a side wall, thereof, and said receptacle having a side wall provided with an opening in communication with said slot.

2. A container of the class described having a packaging and dispensing chamber adapted to contain a plurality of articles and provided, at the lower end of the container, with a narrow slot for the dispensing of individual articles from said chamber while the latter remains closed at said end of the container, and means disposed in said container, at the end of said chamber remote from said article removal opening, providing a disposal chamber for the used articles dispensed from said first mentioned chamber, said means comprising an open top receptacle movably mounted within said container in engagement with the latter above said dispensing chamber, said receptacle having a side wall provided with an opening and said container having an opening in communication therewith first through said side wall opening and thereafter with said open top upon movement of said receptacle for the insertion of used articles therein while the other end of the container remains closed.

3. A container of the class described having a packaging and dispensing chamber adapted to contain a plurality of articles and provided, at the lower end of the container with an opening for the dispensing of said articles, and means disposed in said container, at the upper end of said chamber remote from said article removal opening, providing a disposal chamber for the used articles dispensed from said first mentioned chamber, said means comprising a receptacle movably mounted within said container in engagement with the side walls of the latter above said dispensing chamber, said receptacle being movable under the weight of the articles therein, when the container is in vertical position and the first mentioned chamber is therebelow, whereby said receptacle follows the articles in said packaging chamber as the latter move to- I ward said opening therein and said disposal
