PHONOGRAPH RECORD WITH PIN HOLDER Filed Dec. 9, 1950 /m TTORNEYS Patented` June 27, 1933 UNITED STATES [PATENT orsi;

ARTHUR M. AcHEsoN, 0F noBRs FERRY, New Yon-R, As'srG'NoR To DURIUM; PRoDUc'Ts CORPORATION, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION 0F DELAWARE PHONOGRAPH RECORD WITH. PIN HOLDER Application filed December The present invention relates broadly to phonograph records and more especially to a phonograph record provided with a member adapted to engage the pin on a phonograph record table to hold the record in` place on the table while the record is in use.
The present invention is more especially adapted to flexible phonograph records and is particularly useful with the type of record having a paper body and a hard record groove surface thereon. Such records are flexible and in use there is a tendency of the pin opening in the record to wear due to the records being placed on and taken from the turn tablecentering pin. After continued use, this pin opening may wear to such an extent as to permit the record to rise from the pin during playing, long before the record grooves are worn out.
The present invention in the preferred form comprises a fiat thin resilient member preferably of sheet metal which has spring arms which engage the record table pin when the record is in use. Y
In the specific embodiment of the present invention, a member having spring sides adapted to engage the record table pin on diametrically opposite sides is adapted to be set in a depression formed in the centerl of the record so that the thickness of the record is not appreciably increased by the applica- .tion of the pin engaging member.
Other and further objects of the present invention will in part be obvious and will in part be pointed out hereinafter in the specication following.
'It is to be understood that the present invention may be practiced by slight variations from the disclosure herewith and, therefore, the disclosure is to be understood vas illustrative and'not in the limiting sense.
Fig. l is a perspective view of a phonograph record in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of a cen- 9, i930; semaine. 500,986.
tral portion of a phonograph record in accordance with the present invention. y n
. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken online3--3 offFig. 2;
vvFig. 4 is anenlarged view of the central member during one step of its manufacture.
Referring nowfto the drawing, the phonograph record l in the preferred form of the invention comprises a body portion 2 preferably ofLpaper stock coated with a record groove surface material 4f, the central kportion of which preferably is depressed to form a recess 5 in the center of Which is located the pin opening 6.` A member 7 comprising spring vside arms 8 and 9 secured to yielding :end'pieces 10 and l1 is provided with lugs A12 adapted to pass throughopenings in the record l and to terminate in'clinched ends ltzwhich are slightly embedded in the paper body 2. j i y t will be observed from Fig. 4 that the lugs l2 are stamped from the. inner side of thefmember 7 so that these lugs are formed Awithout-substantial loss of useful material. Preferably, although not necessarily, kthis member 7 is formed of resilient metal, brass, steel, etc., although otherresilient sheet substances,Y for example, Celluloid may also be `used. Where `(zelluloid orf thelike isrused, the lugs l2 may be dispensed with and the member may Ybecemented at its ends l0v and 11 to the body ofthe record, leaving the side members 8 and`9 free to yield when the recordwith the center member thereon is forced over the recordtab'le` pin 15 carried by the record table 16. f n Byreferring to Fig. 3, it will be observed 'that the member 7 beingof relatively thin sheet material setsy in the recess 5 and that the clinched ends 14- are embedded Vin the body of/the record so that this member does not substantially increase the thickness of the record at the Vcenter thereof. v This construction, therefore, does not interfere with staclring the records or in packaging the same;l
Having described my invention, I claim: l. A phonograph record of the flexible disc type comprising a flexible body'portion having a pin opening in the center thereof, in combination with a pin engaging member comprising a pair of fiat spring arms having portions laterally movable toward and from each other,'the opposite edges of said spring arms'being Vadapted to engage opposite sides of a record table pin extending through said opening.
2. A phonograph record of the flexible" disc type comprlsing a ieXible body portion vhaving a pin opening in the center thereof and an annular recess in one surface encircling said opening, a fiat metallic spring engaging member comprising spring arms located on diametrically opposite sides of said pin opening in said recess and movable in said recess towardjand from saidopening, end portions joining said spring arms, anchoring lugs extending through said record from said type having a body portion provided with a `pin openingin the 'center thereof, in'combination with: a' flat springvinember having said recess.
- ARTHUR M. ACHESON.
the outline of a, pair of opposed horse-shoes withlthe heel members thereof joined to comrise spring arms, said member being centralylocated on said record whereby the axis of said pin opening extends between said spring arms, said.y arms' being laterally movableV to. ward each other to yieldingly grip the pin.
4. A phonograph record of the flexible discv type,c"omprising a flexible body portion having a pin opening in the center and a recess in one surface encircling said opening, `and a flat metallic spring member disposed in said recess and of a thickness not greater than the depth of vsaid recess, and includingspring arm's upon opposite sides of said opening and 'v laterally slidable insaid recessrtoward said opening, and having edgeV portions adapted toyieldin'gly engage 'a centering pin projecting through said opening.
5. A phonograph record 'of the flexible 'disc "i no
