2 Claims.
My invention relates to ink and pencil erasers of the circular type, especially that type used forV erasing typewritten matter, and the object of the invention is to provide an eraser of improved con- 5 struction such as will give it the greatest utility 1n use.
Heretofore, erasers of this type have been objectionable for the reason that their construction has been such that a good grip has not been possible for most eiective use, while injury to the fingers has always been a menace.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made, such as applying the construction to erasers of other than the circular type, without departing from the spirit of the in- Vention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which A Figure 1 is a side elevation of an eraser of the circular type, and
Figure 2 is an enlarged cross section of an eraser taken on the line II--II of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 shows an eraser comprising a circular eraser proper of well known construction, indicated at I. Concave 30 discs 2 having their central portions slightly depressed as shown at 5, Figure 2, are secured to opposite sides of the. eraser proper by means of a flanged eyelet 3, which eyelet is secured snugly and firmly therein, so that the ilanges of the eye- 35 let lie entirely within the depressions formed in the disks. The concavity of the disks makes possible a better and firmer grip upon the eraser by the user thereof. The disks at their outer peripheries are turned inward substantially at right angles to the plane surfaces thereof as shown at 4 of Figure 2, for the purpose of tightening the hold upon the eraser proper as well as avoiding injury to the fingers where substantial pressure thereupon is exerted.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. The combination with an eraser body having a central aperture, said eraser having a relatively thick outer portion and a relatively thin portion surrounded by the outer portion defined from the outer portion by annular shoulders; of Aa pair of like disks having central openings, the portions of the disks surrounding said openings being depressed to provide shoulders conforming to the shoulders of the eraser body, and a rivet passing through said disks and body to clamp the relatively thin portion of the body between the depressed portions of the disk with the disk shoulders bearing against the body shoulders.
2. The combination with an eraser body having a central aperture, said eraser having a relatively thick outer portion and a relatively thin portion surrounded by the outer portion defined from the outer portion by annular shoulders; of a pair of like disks having central openings, the portions of the disks surrounding said openings being depressed to provide shoulders conforming to the shoulders of the eraser body, and a rivet passing through said disks and body to clamp the relatively thin portion of the body between the depressed portions of the disk with the disk shoulders bearing against the body shoulders, saidV body being tapered in thickness outwardly to the peripheries of the disks and the disks being dished to conform to the tapered portion of the body.
JOSEPH MEILNER.
