No. 191,403. PatentredMay 29,1877.
vvrrmassas.v INVENTOR. M MMM/@MM NA PETERS. PHOTO-LrTHQGRAPNER WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ALBERT OHAMBERLIN, OF NORTH ABINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,403, dated May 29, 1877; application iiled February 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT GHAMBERLIN, of North Abington, Plymouth county, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Sash Holder and Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to certain improvements in sash-holders5 and it consists of a novel construction and combination of parts, which will be fully hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claiin.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, Figure l is a vertical sectional view of a part of a sash and a window-frame having my improved sash holder and fastener applied; Fig. 2, a horizontal section on line :v Fig. l.
In the drawings, A represents a portion of a sash, and B a portion of the window-frame, against which runs the sash portion A; C, a lever hung on a iulcruni-pin, c, of the sash A, and adapted by its rubber-cushioned end b to bear against the surface c of the windowframe. This lever projects from the sash, and is then suitably formed to be operated by the Athumb or finger. d, a spiral spring, fastened at one end to the upper side of the lever C, and at the other end to the sash above the lever C. The spiral spring d holds the rubber-cushioned end of the leveragainst the window-trame, and thus the sash is sustained in position when opened either wholly or partially.
To lower the sash, press at the outer end f of lever C, which draws the friction end of the lever from its bearing in the windowframe.
D is a stud on inner end ot' sashlever (l, and t a lip projection on the window-frame, lying across the recess min the window-frame.
The recess m and the lip projection l are located in position for the recess to receive the lever (l when the window is closed, and
for the projection l, by the abutment againstit of the stud D of the lever C, to prevent the window being raised except the lever be first suitably operated, torelieve it from its seat within the recess of the window-frame.
The friction or bearing end ot' the lever U allows the window to be raised as may be desired, offering no substantial obstruction thereto.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the lever C, having cushioned end b and spiral spring d, ot' the stud D, lip projection l, and recess m, and the window and sash frame, as described, forthe purpose specied.
ALBERT CHAMBERLIN.
