Description

(No Model.)
W. H. KOONS. WINDOW SASH HOLDER.
0 3 Patented June 8,189"7.
WITNESSES wm #KM iioifj I llivrrn rarns IVILLIAM II. KOON S, OF BATH, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWVO-THIRDS' TO PALMER M. KERN AND HARRISON A. GERNERD, OF SAME PLACE.
WINDOW-SASH HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,310, dated June 8, 1897.
Application filed August 17, 1896. Serial No. 602,955. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. KOONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bath,
in the county of Northampton and State of My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in sash-holders, the object of the same being to provide a simple and I cheaply-constructed device of this character whereby window-sashes may be readily raised or lowered and locked at any point Within their range of movement.
The invention consists of a window-sash having a recess or socket in its outer edge, a dog having a cam-face pivoted in said socket and projecting outwardly from the edge of said sash, a pin pivoted to the end of said dog and projecting through aslot in the inner edge of said window-sash, and a spring surrounding said pin for normally urging said dog to its outer position.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 representsafront elevation, partly in section, of a window frame and sash with my improved fastening device secured in the latter. Fig. 2 is a view of the outer edge of the sash.
3 5 Like reference-numerals indicate like parts in both views.
The window-frame 1 has the sash 2 slidingly mounted therein, both being of the usual form of construction except as hereinafter set forth. The sash 2 has formed in its outer edge a recess or socket 3, in which is pivotally mounted a dog 4, having a cam-face which projects slightly beyond the outer edge of said sash. Pivoted to the free end of said dog is a rod or bar 5, which extends inwardly through a slot or opening Gin said sash and has formed upon its inner end a knob or handle 7. Surrounding the rod or pin 5 and engaging the shoulder on the inside of the socket 3 is a coilspring 8, which tends to normally urge the dog 4 outwardly.
My'improved sash-holder has been shown in the drawings in connection with the lower sash of a window. It will thus be seen that the sash 2 is free to be moved upwardly, but 5 that its downward movement is prevented by reason of the engagement of the dog 4, projecting outwardly from the edge of said sash, with the inner surface of the window-frame 1. The greater the pressure that is applied to force the sash 2 downwardly the stronger the same will be resisted by the dog at by reason of the cam-shaped face thereon. If it be desired to lower said sash, it may be readily done by drawing inwardly the rod or bar 5, which will release the dog 4 from engagement with the inner surface of the window-frame 1.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a window-frame having smooth inner edges, of a sash slidingly mounted therein having a recess or socket in its outer edge, a cam-faced dog pivoted in said socket, a rod or pin pivoted to the end of said 7 5 dog and projecting inwardly through a slot or opening in said sash, and a coil-spring surrounding said rod, whereby said dog is normally urge-d outwardly into engagement with the inner surface of said window-frame, and whereby the same may be released therefrom, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. Koons.
