Patented Feb. 28, 1911.

Be it known that 1, MICHAEL L. BLINN, subject of the King of England, residing at Stoneham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash- Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sash locks and has for an object to form a device of this character which automatically locks the sashes upon the closing of he same.
This invention comprehends a sash lock which comprises but few parts, and one which can be easily and quickly operated to release the sashes when desired.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings in which:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings numeral 10 designates the lower bar of the upper sash of a window which is provided upon its upper face with a keeper 11. The keeper 11 is y formed of a channel member which is secured to the sash through the medium of outturned flanges 12. The inner edge off the top of the keeper 11 is beveled upwardly to form an inclined face 13. The upper bar 1 1 of the lower sash is provided upon its upper face with a housing 15 which is opened at its outer end to receive a sliding bolt or latch 16. The latch 16 is provided 1 in the usual manner with a beveled outer end 17 to ride over the inclined face 13 as the bars 10 and 14 are registered. The inner end of the bolt 16 is reduced by cutting away one side thereof to form a shoulder 18 l and a shank 19. The shank 19 extends backwardly through the housing 15 and through an opening 20 in the rear wall of the housing and at one side of the same. A coil spring 21 is positioned within the housing between the shoulder 18 and the inner wall thereof to normally hold the sliding bolt 16 in an The rear extremity of the shank 19 is provided with a transverse and longitudinal slot 22 through which is extended the horizontal arm .43 of the operating lever. The inner end of the arm 23 is headed. or off-set as at 24, the head 241-. resting against the inner edge of the shank 19 to hold the arm 23 loosely within the slot 22. The arm 28 extends outwardly beyond the side of the housing 15 and is turned downwardly to form bearing edge The outer end of the arm 2-3 is curved backwardly and downwardly to provide a handle 26. The housing 15 is secured. upon the bar 14: through the medium of lateral flanges 27 which rest upon the upper face of the bar. The flange 27 adjacent the arm 23 is pro vided with a downturned lip 28 at its inner end to receive thereagainst the bearing edge 25.
WVhen the improved lock is in position to secure the bars 10 and 1 1, and it is desired to release the bars from one another, the handle 26 is depressed and forced inwardly below the lip 28 to engage the bearing edge 25 against the lip and to thereby carry the arm 23 rearwardly from the housing 15. The arm 28 is moved toward the rear end of the slot 22 to engage with the inner wall of the shank 19 and to thereby retract the sliding bolt 16. When the bars 10 and 14 are out of registration and it is desired to close the sash, the bar14- is forced downwardly whereupon the beveled end 17 of the bolt strikes the inclined face 13 to automatically retract the bolt 16 against the tension of the spring 21. When the housing is registered with the keeper 11 the end of the bolt is re leased from the inclined face 13 and the bolt is forced into the keeper by the spring 21.
