This invention relates to accessories and fasteners and has more particular reference to a simple and novel retainer for use in connection with feminine apparel and adapted to securely connect or fasten shoulder straps of undergarments to an outer garment to prevent accidental displacement of the strap from the shoulders of the wearer.

Strap fasteners of this type are not broadly new, in fact, the art to which the invention relates is apparently rather well developed. Therefore, the present invention has reference to an appreciable contribution to the art and to the trade, which it is believed, will fulfill the requirements of a retainer of this type in a practical and gratifying manner.

Briefly stated, the invention comprises a clip fashioned to embrace the shoulder straps, a safety pin of special configuration for attachment to an outer garment, and a quick separable fastener afiording the coupling means between the safety pin and clip.

Figure 1 is a view showing the device as constructed in accordance with the invention, the safety pin being attached to the supporting outer garment.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view through portions of a garment and through the device and showing the device connecting a part of the garment to the shoulder strap of an inner garment, the section being taken at right angles to Fig. 1.

Referring first to Figure 4 it will be observed that the numeral 6 designates the safety pin comprising the customary companion members 7 and 8 joined together by a coiled spring 9, the member 8 carrying the customary keeper with which the free snap-in end of the member 7 is co-operable as in any ordi- 1932. nary safety pin. This pin is different however from ordinary pins in that the member 8 includes an intermediate bend of general U-shaped configuration as indicated at 11.

The socket member or element 12 of a snap fastener is connected loosely by a link 13 to the bend 11. In accomplishing this it will be observed that the marginal port-ion of the element 12 is apertured to accommodate the link 13 in order to provide the requisite freedom of action of the snap fastener 12 to facilitate connection with the headed stud 14; carried by the shoulder clip 15. This slip is in the form of an elongated loop-like device 16 of arcuate form whose free end portions are separably connected together as indicated at 17 in Figure 6. By placing the link 13 on the member 8, it is prevented from being detached from the safety pin by the coil 9 at one end of the pin and the keeper member at the other end thereof.

It is evident that the clip 15 is so made as to permit it to embrace the shoulder strap 18 in the manner shown in Figure 2. Then by attaching the safety pin to the outer garment 19in a position so that it is disposed above and to one longitudinal side of the clip 15, this places the parts 12 and 14 of the snap fastener in such position as to permit them to be snapped together as seen in Figure 2.

Manifestly then, with the retainer thus positioned, it functions to hold the strap 18 against displacement due to the fact that they are separably anchored to the garment 19. Hence the invention may be employed as a simple and economical snap fastener of a unique and highly desirable character.

I claim: A shoulder strap retainer of the class described comprising a safety pin adapted for,

connection with an outer garment, the stationary bar of said pin having a substantially U-shaped portion intermediate its ends, the bight of which is of considerable length a small link of substantially ring shape slidably arranged on said stationary bar and engaging the bight portion of the U-shaped part, a snap fastener part formed with a mar ginal flange having an opening therein through which the said link passes, ashoulder strap receiving loop and a second snap fastener part permanently fastened to a portion of the loop and adapted to engage the first part to connect the loop to the pin.
