UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
BENJAMIN R. BROWN, OF PETEBSBURG, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMEN T IN WATER-CLOSET PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,187, dated May 1, 1877; application filed January 13, 1877.
I of Petersburg, county of Dinwiddie, and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Water-Gloset Protector, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents one of my improved protectors as sent to market. sents the same after the waste-paper has been torn off.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish a protector to be placed upon the seats of water-closets around the hole, for the double purpose of cleanliness, and to prevent the contracting of venereal diseases while using the water-closet, and which shall also furnish the user with a supply of waste-paper.
The invention consists in a sheet of paper provided with two circles or lines of punctures, forming between them a ring having an inwardly-projecting narrow flap and an outwardly-projectin g wide flap, as hereinafter fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a sheet of paper, of a kind suitable for watercloset use. Around the center of the sheet A is formed a circle, B, of punctures, with a reentrant angle, forming a flap, b, when the middle part of the sheet is torn away. The flap b is designed to protect the penis from coming in contact with the basin.
Around the circle B of punctures is formed a second circle, 0, of punctures, at such a Fig. 2 repredistance from the said circle B as will leave a ring, D, of sufficient size to prevent the person of the user from coming in contact with the seat. At the rear side the lines 0 of punctures curve outwardly, and extend to the edge of the paper. At the forward side the lines 0 of punctures curve outwardly to the edge of the paper, forming a wide flap, d, to prevent the legs of the user from coming in contact with the seat.
The punctures may be made of any desired shape; but I prefer to make them of diamond shape, so that the strain will come in the angles of the punctures, to insure the tear following the line of said punctures.
In using the protector, the sheet A is folded, and the part LEL Withi-n the circle B of punctures, is torn aw yTa'nd kept for wastepaper. The sheet A is then spread upon the seat, and the parts of the sheet A without the outer circle 0 of punctures is torn away, either before or while at stool, and kept for waste-paper.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A sheet of paper provided with two circles or lines, B U, of punctures, forming a ring, D, having an inwardly-projecting narrow flap, b, and an outwardly-projecting wide flap, d, substantially as herein shown and described.
BENJAMIN RUOKER BROWN.
