APPLICATION FILED DE0.0,1910
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
' UNITED STA PATENT oration.
[ALBERT L. MORTORZ 'OF SIRILTGFIIELD, ILLINOIS.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, Aiinnn'r L. l'vloa'ro's, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and- State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seats, of which the followin' is a spec fication, reference being had i erein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to auxiliary seats for water closets and the principal object of the same is to provide a portable seat for use by children that is light in weight but strong and serviceable and which can be readily moved by children and placed in proper position over a closet scat.
The invention also contemplates prevaling the auxiliary seat with back and side guards so that danger of falling from the seat is obviated and also a step so that a child can readily reach the seat, said step serving as a foot rest when the seat is being used.
In carrying out the objects of the invention-generally stated above it will be understood, of course that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptil'rle cl changes in "details and structural arrangeproved auxiliary seat.
ments, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanyin 'drawings,'wherein:--'
iigure 1 is 'a top plan view of the 1m Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-4 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation.
Referring to the acconnpanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the iinproved auxiliary seat for water closets comprises a pair of side members 1 which are provided with elongated and preferably 1ntegral feet 2. The side members 1 are arranged in divergent relation so that they may be snugly fitted about the base of a water closet bowl, and their upper ends arc.connected by the flat board 3 which has the corn tral portion of its inner longitudinal edge, provided with a notch 4 into which the usual front protuberance of a closet bowl pro ects, as is indicated by broken lines in Figs. 1. and 2 of the drawings. l
The rear edges of the side members 1 merge into the feet 2 on an easy curve, and

vsaid edges have the base portions 5 of' thel" accidentally falling therefrom, said guards '65 being preferably formed from. a single length of Wire, the ends thereof being provided with eyes 13 which are screwed or otherwise detachably fastened to the seat 8 adjacent opposite sides of the central opening 10, and at the junction of the side guards and back guards, said length of material is; twisted to form braces 14: having eyes 15 intheir free ends which are screwed or other wise detachably fastened to said seat 8. 4
The guards '11. and 12 obviously serve as ctlicient bacltrests for the occuphnt of thin seat as well as serving to prevent accidental falling therefrom, and the flat board Rservcs as a toot-rest-when the seat is being used and a step which is of material-aid to chil drcn when climbing to the seat.
it will be understood from the foregoing, that the improved auxiliary seat can be I snugly li'l ted about a closet bowl with its seat projecting over the seat of said bowl, and being light in weight, can be readily placed in position. for use or removed therefrom. And it will also be mnltrstootl that the an I gular ends (3 of the standards 6 extend subco stantially across opposite portions of the seat 8 so that said seat is reinforced thereby.
\Vhat T claim as my invention is 1. An auxiliary scat {or water closets comprising a pair of side members provided with elongated tect, said meml'mrs and feet arranged in divergent relation to be fitted about. opposite portions of a closet bowl, a combined foot rest and step connecting said r o l side members and provided with a notch for M0 guiar ends, and back and sicie guards carseat, and means carried by said members for Tied by said. seat. supporting said seat, 0 2. An auxiliary seat for WiLtGI' closets In testimony whereof I hereunto MEX my comprising supporting side members arsignature in presence of two Witnesses.-
