Description

M. J. EARLEY. TOILET SEAT COVER.
ATION FILED OCT- 0 9 Patented Oct. 24, 1916.
A TTOH/l/EYS ll". 1:1 SL JAMES EARLIER, 0F MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
TOILET-SEAT COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented (lot. 2%, 1915.
Application filed October 30, 1914. Serial No. 869,387.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, MARSHALL J. EARLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Seat Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sanitary toilet seat covers, and one of the principal objects of the inventionis to provide a seat cover of a shape to fit upon a toilet seat and having portions depending within the bowl for I preventing accidental displacement of the .provide a cover of the class set forth composed of a sheet of easily destructible material adapted to be vended for individual use.
With these and other objects in view which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, of which,
Figure 1 illustrates a convenient method of vending the covers, indicating a pair of the same as being folded and placed in an envelop ready for dispensation. Fig. 2 represents a top plan view of a seat cover constructed according to my invention, and Fig. 3 represents a vertical central longitudinal sectional View taken through a toilet seat showing the cover in place thereon.
In carrying-out my invention, I provide a sheet having a substantially annular body portion 5 of a configuration to fit upon the toilet seat-indicated at 6. The body is, as shown, provided with a central opening 7 of a size coincident with the size of the opening in the seat 6.
Projecting from diametrically opposed points defining the front and rear of the inner edge of body 5 are the flap and tab 8 and 9 respectively. The former is considerably larger in dimensions than the latter, and is substantially round while the latter is substantially ll-shaped.
Flap 8 is P connected at one edge to the body of the cover as at 10, and the ends of connecting portion 10 are concaved or curved at 11 so that the flap cannot readily become severed from the body by accidental tearing.
Tab 9 is connected alongits rear edge as at 12 to body 5, slits or incisions 13 extending from the ends 14 of said tab to the ends of edge 12. The slits allow of the tab folding downwardly into the position shown in the Fig. 3. The tab afl'ords an adequate protection against any excrement which might have accumulated on the rear portion of seat 6, but is not of such size as to interfere with flushing of the bowl.
The flap 8 depends well within the bowl in the manner indicated in Fig. 3, for the purposes before mentioned.
A convenient manner of dispensing the seat covers consists, as shown in Fig. 1, of providing suitable envelops in which two or more of the covers (indicated at A), as desired, may be packed in folded position. The envelops containing the covers may be dispensed by means of vending machines, or in any other suitable manner.
The seat cover may be made of paper, cloth, or of any material suitable for the purpose and is stamped as an entirety from such material by means of suitable dies.
Although I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I may desire to make such changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of the parts thereof as do not depart from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim. w
1 claim! A seat cover comprising an annular body having a central opening, and adapted to fit upon a seat, a flap depending from the cover at the forward edge of the opening, and a substantially diamond shaped tab depending from the cover at the rear edge of the opening, the long axis of the tab being arranged approximately at right angles to the long axis of the cover, said tab having a straight edge connected with the body along a line of perforations.
