Application filed October 17, 1930. Serial No.489,35 6. i i
This invention relates to bathers accessories, and more particularly to a waterproof receptacle for carrying small articles, such as cigarette packages, vanity boxes, money and jewelry, out of contact with the water while bathing.
One object of this invention is to provide a receptacle of the above nature constructed of flexible waterproof material which is temporarily closed at the top by a two-part cover member.
A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture,
easy to install and manipulate, compact,
ornamental in appearance, and very eiiicient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of the invention.
'25 Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, taken along the line 22 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken through the cover members, along the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring now to the drawing in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the '35 numeral 10 indicates a flexible waterproof bag having an open top 11 and being preferably constructed of thin rubber. The bag is preferably made rectangular in shape and is made of such a size as to conveniently carry a package of cigarettes, a vanity case, and a small quantity of money, jewelry or other articles, not shown.
The open top of the bag is adapted to be closed by means of a pair of substantially rectangular cupped clip members 12 and 13 connected together at one end by a spring hinge 14 and at the other end by a depressible spring clasp 15 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The rear clip member 12 is provided 59 I with a rectangular depending section 16 having secured thereto a detachable fastening device 17 which is providedwith a'resili'ent safety pin 18, the point of which is adapted to be passed through'thematerial of a bath: I ing suit or other garment, not shown, "and then received in a catch 19 spaced from the endof said fastening device 17 V In order tosecure the rear clip member 12 to'the rear upper portion of the rubber bag 10, provision ismade of a metal plate 20, having its base located 011 the insideof the rubber bag 10. The plate 20 is provided with a pair of rearwardly extending rounded prongs 21 and 22 passing through the rear 7 portion of said bag 10 and through said cli p' member 12, the extremities of said fplate'2O being bent toward one another intolcontact with the surface of said rear clip member 12.
It will be understood that the front and rear clip members 12 and 13 may be con- I nected -together in other ways than by the spring eatch'lfi herein disclosed, as by afslide fastener of the zipper type, an exterior clip",- or other devices. I T V For the purpose of producing a mor'eef fective barrier against the leakageof water into the bag 10 the clipmembers 12 and 13 are provided respectively with an inwardly extending concave groove 23 and an outward 7 1y extending convex rib 24;. The groove 23 and rib 24.- arelocated in interfitting a linement with one another and the dimensions of the clip members 12 and 13 are such that when said clip members are closed the twothicknesses of the. rubber bag located there within will be forced into. firm resilient con tact with each other thereby obtaining an ex tremelytight joint through which'water will be unable to penetrate. To open thewater -v proof receptacle after leaving the water, it will merely be necessary for. the bather to press upon the spring catch 15 whereupon the front clip member 13 will fly'open under the infiuenceof the spring hinge 14. a y If desired, the attaching plate 20 may be 5 covered on the inside by a canvas backing" strip 25, a's clearly shown in FigsQ2 and 3. V While there has been disclosed in this specification-jone form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this 106 form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure but may be modified and, embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming Within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent is: 7
1. In a bathing receptacle, a flat Waterproof bag, a pair of hinged sheet metal clip members for clamping upon the upper end of said bag, means fordetachably connecting said clip members to form a tight seal, and an attaching strip having bent over end lugs for securing one of said clip members to one side of said bag, said clip members having interfitting ribs and grooves pressed out of the material thereof for strengthening the construction. v
V 2. In a bathing receptacle, a flat waterproof bag, a pair of hinged sheet metal clip members for clamping upon theupper end of said bag, and means for detachably conclamping the sides of the upper end of said bag into contact with each other, and means for detachably securing one of said clip members to a bathing suit or other article of apparel, said clip members having. interfitting ribs and grooves pressed out of the material thereof for strengthening the construction.
. In testimony whereof, we have aflixed our signatures to this specification.
