ALEXANDERD. POLOULBOYARENOF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
s oE-LAonrAs ENiNG.
To all an/tom m rry concern): a y
Be it lillOWll that I, ALEXANDER D. Ponounoranenor, a sub ect of the Russian Projvisional Government, residing at New York, in the county of New Yorkand State of New Yorlg'have invented new and useful Improvements inSlioe-Lace l asteniings of.
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shoe lace fasten ings and the like and has for its principal object, the provision of a device of this character which will consist of mating instrumentalitics adapted to be respectively associated with tl1eshoe and lacc thercoif for securing theends of the lattertogether and for preventing accidental or casual untying or separation or said ends.
A still further object of theinvention resides in the provisionol a device of this character which will materially facilitate an adjustment of the lace upon the shoe and for holding the ends of the lace in a neat and attractive position when tied.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, has been illustrated, a single and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitations are necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a portion of a shoe showing the application of the invention thereto.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clip showing the retaining plate adjusted to an opened position. i
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the retaining plate closed.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the clip.
While the invention is principally designed for use in connection with boots and shoes, I do not wish to limit myself in this connection as it obviously follows that it may be equally as effective and desirable for use in connection with other articles of apparel.
In the specific application of the inven- Specification of Letters Patent.
to provide clamping branches 24 and the lower end of the latter being curved Patented Sept. 9, 1919.
Application filed February 13.1918. Serial No) 216,912.
tionto bootsand shoes, use is made of eyelet members 10, which are arranged in vertical rows upon the uppers ofthe shoe as llustrateddn Fig. 1. a
The lace 20 is constructed of any suitable well known flexible adapted tobepassed through said eyelet members.
One terminal A, of the lace is provlded with a fixed elongated loop 22 while the 'OPPOSltG mating terminal B, of the lace is provided with a clip 23. This clip may be constructed of metal or other suitablewell known material which is bent upon itselt forwardly at 26 and then upwardly at 27 so as to constitute a supportinghook 28. Thesaid 13ortion27 is spaced for a suitable distance from the branch 25 and adapted to mate with the curved end 29 of said portion 27 is a swinging retaining plate 30 the free end of which being provided with a curved branch 31 which is adapted to overlie the terminal 29. In order to insure an operative retention of the plate 30, against said terminal 29, the branch 26 is provided with a resilient keeper 32 which is adapted to overlie said extension 31 as shown in. Fig. l. Said keeper 32 may be manipulated by hand in order that the retaining plate can be conveniently adjusted to any desired position as will be understood. The upper end of said retaining plate is mounted to swing in hinge fashion from angularly disposed lugs SEE-34L, formed at the upper end of the clamping section at. Adjacent to this point, said retaining plate is provided with a foot 35 which is adapted to come in pressing contact with the branch 24; and thereby cause said branch to be moved relatively of the branch 25. Said branch 24 is provided with a horizontal line of projections 36 and a vertical line of similar pro- ]ECl31011S 37. The two branches 24L and 25 which constitute the clamping features of the clip are adapted to straddle the upper of the shoe as illustrated in Fig. 1. When the retalnmg plate 30 is adjusted to a closed positlon, it will be observed that the two sections 24 and 25 of the clamp will be brought into clamping impingement with the upper of the shoe and the clip securely maintained in a fixed position.
After the lace has been passed through the respective eyelet members, it is tied in how material which is form as shown at C, in Fig. 1. The clip 23 is then brought into engagement with the upper portlon of the shoe as above referred to. The retaining plate 30 is then opened loops ofthe bowknot C, can be brought together and also passed overthe hook extensions 27 to further safe guard against accidental untying of the lace. The bight 26 n of the clip is preferably slotted at suitable places 38 to permit the lace terminal B, to
L1 be threaded. therethrough and the free extremity of said terminal secured as at 39.
to'the mating portion of said terminal as end of the body portion and adapted to enclearly illustrated in Fig. 4.
What is claimed as new is 1. A device of the character described comprising a sheet metal body portion formed of flexible material and bent intermediate of its ends to form a plurality of substantially parallel rectangular members, a hinged closing plate carried by the body portion, and means carried by one of the free ends of the body portion for engagement with the free end of the hinged plate to retain same in closed position.
2. A device of the character described comprising, a substantially S-shaped body portion, a pair of spaced tongues formed on the body portion intermediate of its ends, a hinged closing, plate pivotally mounted in said tongues, and means carried by one of the free ends of the body portion. and engaging the hinged closing plate, to maintain the same in closed position.
3. A device of "the character described comprising, a substantially S-shaped body portion, a hinged plate carried by the body portion intermediate of its ends, and having a curved free end, and means carried by one gage the curved end of the hinged plate to retain the same in closed position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
