EDNA SIBLEY TITON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
VANITY CASE Application filed July 16,
The object of this invention is, to supply the demand for a compact, convenientlyarranged vanity case which shall include a comb together with compartments for makeup such as face powder, rouge, lipstick etc., also a mirror, and shall, furthermore, be suitable for carrying in the pocket or in a ladys handbag. j y
My improved vanity case is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing in vwhich: f
Fig. 1 is a face view of the side of the case which carries the comb.
Fig. 2 is a face viewof thereverse side of the case.
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the case.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the adjacent end of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an edge view of the case with the comb and the cover for the make-up compartments in a partially opened position.
Fig.V 6 is a central, longitudinal section through the body of the compact, also through the cover of the make-up compartvments, but the comb is not here shown in section.
Fig. 7 is an end view'of the adjacent, hinge end of the case. j Y
' Fig. 8 is a section on line VIII-VIII of Fig.
This case lmay be made of any suitable material, such as metal, or any of the numer` ous compositions, some ofthe best known of whichare commercialized under the trade mark names of Viscoloid, Bakelite etc. The construction shown in the drawing consists of the case body 1, of substantially fiat rectangular form,in one side of which a depression is formed'by a. frame 2 which ex- 40 tends around two sides and one end of said. body; this depression receives or nests the comb 3, Hatwise therein and conforms closely to the outline of said comb except at the hinge end, which is open to permit the comb to be opened to the service position, which itis caused to assume by swinging its freeV end throughV a half circle; the hinge of the comb is shown at 4; the free end of the comb is provided with la tongue 5, which fits close,-

adjacent portion of said frame 2, and whereby the comb is yieldably retained in the closed position.
The face of said body y1, .opposite to that which carries the comb, is shown as being 5 formed to provide three compartments or receptacles 7, 8 and 9; receptacle 7 is for the purpose of containing face powder in cake form; receptacle 8 is intended to hold rouge,
preferably in paste form; receptacle` 9 is in- 50 tended to ycontain lipstick in any suitable form. As a cover, 10, for said compartments, a sheet of stainless steel is employed, one or both sides of which may be polished to form a mirror; this cover is provided at one end with a hinge 11.
Between the hinge points 4 and 11, body 1 is extendedoutwardly at 12 to form a stop or backing for said comb 3 and cover 10 when theyare in the open position, and whereby both said members' are prevented from swinging, when opened, through an extent greater than a semicircle.
Said cover 10, is provided with a securing tongue 13, and in the juxtaposed portion of n said body 1 is formed receiving niche 14 into which said tongue 13 itsV suiiciently tight to yieldably retain the cover in its closed position.
I claim lthe following;
* 1. A vanity case consisting in combination, of a'body of flat substantially rectangu lar, oblong shape, having in one'of the larger sides thereof a depression for the reception of a comb, a comb nested flatwise in said depression and hinged at one of its ends to one end of said body, there being a plurality ofreceptacles formed in the reverse side of` said body, and a cover for said receptacles consisting of a mirror hinged at one of its ends to said body. Y
2. A vanity case comprising in combination, a body of flat substantially rectangular, oblong shape having in one of the larger sides thereof a depression for the reception of a comb, a comb occupying said depression, said comb being hinged at one of its" ends to one end 'of said body; aplurality of receptacles formed in the reverse side of said body; and a cover for said receptacles hinged to said body adjacent the hinge point of said comb; said body being formed into a stop whereby said comb and said cover are limited in the extent of their respective opening movements. v
