UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH MONACO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
INDOOR CLOTHESLINE EXTENSION Application filed March 2,
i be swung about to extend only outside of the window allowing the window to be closed.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved clothes line extension which will make for increased safety of the person hanging the clothes, maklng 1t unnecessary to lean out of the window to hang the clothes. 1
Still a further object of this invention is to provide an improved clothes line extension which may be pivoted to extend either inside 20 of or outside of the window at will.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide an improved clothes line extension which is easily adjustable to vary the tension on the clothes line without the necessity of leaning out of the window.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an adjusting means for clothes line extensions which is easily accessible and 1 easily operable.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, as will hereinafter become apparent, this invention comprises the constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts,
' hereinafter set forth, disclosed and shown on the accompanying drawing. In this draw- 111g,
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the device applied to the window. I
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 45 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the arrangement of the pulleys.
There is shown at a diagrammatical representation of a window jamb provided with the usual path 11 for the window 12. Secured to the window jamb 10 by means of the screws 13 is a bracket 141 having an arm 15extending at an angle thereto, the angle being approximately more or less. The

arm 15 ends'in a boss 16 which may be corrugated on the top, as shown at 17', the arm 15 bein of sufiicient length so that the boss '16 will" ebeyondthe'plane 18 of the outside 7 ofthe wmdow jamb 10. Supported onthe boss .16'is a bracket arm 19, the bracket arm "19 having a b0ss20 complementary to the boss 16 andheldthereto by a-thuinb locking bolt 21 projectingthrough the bottomof the boss 16 into the boss 20.
As will be .apparent, by tightening down the'thumb lockingbolt 21,.the boss 20 is immovably fixed on the boss 16, but when the locking bolt 21 is loosened the arm 19 on boss 2 20 may be swung around througha substantial angle. The bracket arm 19 ends in a. U- shaped clamp 22, the clamp 22 being provided for holding apulley rod 23. fTo allow the pulley rod 23130 be easily adjusted along its length, the U-cl'amp 22 is providedwith a pair of. roller'bearings' 24, a lock set screw 25 being provided through the bottom of the clamp 22 for securing the pulley rod 23 against. movement except when desirable. The pulley rod 23 has a Ushaped groove 26 provided at one side thereofto' receive the clotheslline 27, the groove 26 being aligned with a pulley 28 at the outside end of the pulley rod 23 and another pulley 29'at the inside end of the pulley rod 23, U-members'30 being provided at each pulley for holding the clothes line.27 thereagainst. j A third pulley31, supported in any suitable manneras on a clothes line pole at a distance. from the pulleys 28. and 29, serves to support the clothes line 27 in operative position with/the clothes holdingportion as at 32. .In operation, the window 12 willbe open I in the position shown in Figure 1, and the M pulley rod'23 extended within the Window loosened and the bracket 19 turned about 9'5 through'the position shown in dotted line in Figures 1 and 2-until the inner' pulley 29 is v far enough out of the windowjamb to allow the window 12 to be closed, the thumb locking bolt-21 being thentightenedto hold it in this supporting the clothes line, said means comprising a pulley at each end of said pulley rod, a U-member secured to said pulley rod at each pulley, and a groove formed on one 1side of said pulley rod to receive the clothes In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOSEPH MONACO.
this device will be apparent from the foregoing description. While the device has been shown and the structure described in de-,
tail, it is obvious that this is'not'to be considered limited to the exact form disclosed and that changes may be made'the'rein within the scope of what is claimed without departin from the spirit of the invention.
aving thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
1. A clothes line extension comprising a bracket member, an arm extending angularly therefrom, a bracket arm pivotally adjustable on said angular arm, a holding member on said bracket arm, a pulley rod passing through said holding member, meansfor adjustably securing said bracket arm to said angular arm, means for adjustably securing 7 said pulley rod in said holding member, a
clothes line groove formed along one side of said pulley rod, a pulley member on each end of said pulley rod, and a U-member secured to said pulley rod at each pulley member, said U-member serving to hold the clothes line in position thereon.
2. An indoor clothes line extension com prising a bracket member, means for securing said bracket member to a window jamb, an arm integrally projecting from said bracket member at an angle thereto, a corrugated boss formed on the end of said angular arm, a bracket arm, a boss on said bracket arm complementary to said corrugated boss on said angular arm, means for adjustably securing said bosses together, a U-clamp on said bracket arm, a pulley rod, roller means in said U-clamp allowing said pulley rod to pass therethrough, means for securing said pulley rod at any desired position within said U-clamp, and means on said pulley rod for supporting the clothes line.
3. An indoor clothes line extension comprising a bracket member, means for securing said bracket member to a window jamb. an arm integrally projecting from said bracket member at an angle thereto. a corrugated boss formed on the end of said angular arm, a bracket arm, a boss on said bracket arm complementary to said corrugated boss on said angular arm, means for adjustably securing said bosses together, a U-clamp on said bracket arm, a pulley rod, roller means in said U-clamp allowing said pulley rod to pass therethrough, means for-securing said pulley rod at any desired position within said U-clamp, means on said pulley rod for
