PATET orr cs ISADORE FLEXEB', OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA AWNING HANGER Application. filed February 12, 1932. Serial No. 592,604.
The present invention relates to an awning hanger particularly. designed for awnings used on windows, doors and the like and the object of the invention is to provide a hanger of this nature which may be conveniently installed within a window opening, which is exceedingly simple in its construction, easy to manipulate, quickly detachable, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and otherwise Well adapted tothe purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an awning mounted in accord with this invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 8 is a vertical section taken substantially on the line 8-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a' horizontal section taken substantially on the line 4i lof Figure 2.
1 Figure 5 is a longitudinal section through the telescopic bar.
Figures 6 and 7 are perspective views of the bracket.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that letters A and B denote a pair of brackets each of which comprises a plate 5 with a pair of openings 6 therein so that the plate may be fastened to the upper portion of a. window frame or the like by screws or other suitable fastening elements. On the outer edge of the plate 5 there is formed a U-shaped plate 7 comprising a bight a and spaced parallel co-extensive plate bodies Z) and 0. One of the plate bodies 0 is provided with a relatively small opening 8 while the other plate body 0 is formed with a relatively large opening 8. An elongated telescopic bar comprises a tubular section 10 of elongated construction having formed adjacent one end an inwardly directed annular shoulder 11. Across the tube 10 adjacent the last mentioned end is a rivet 12. A cylindrical block 14 is slidable in the tube and is normally held in abutment with the shoulder 11 by a spring 15 interposed between the cylindrical block and the pivot 12. Extending outwardly from the block 14: is a stem 16. The stem 16 is adapted to be disposed in the opening 8 while the other end of the tube 10 is adapted to be disposed in the opening 8.
The awning 18 has its upper edge formed with a hem 19 through which the telescopic bar extends. The other parts of the awning are mounted in conventional manner. It will be readily understood that with this hanger construction the awning may be quickly put in place or taken out as contrasted with presout well known practice.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will. now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to P without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
An awning rod supporting bracket formed of a single piece of material and including a base adapted to be fastened to a support and a Ushaped part extending at right angles from the base and having the end of its inner limb connected with the outer end of the base with the bight of the U-shaped part extending in an opposite direction from the base, whereby the outer limb of the U- shaped part is spaced outwardly from the base, said inner limb having a hole therein for receiving an end of the rod and the outer limb being imperforate and forming a stop for that end of the rod which passes through the hole, to limit longitudinal movement of the rod.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
