DOORSTOP Filed Dec. 2'7, 1935 I nventm' 192; 25022- ZZVu/Zzck,
QMm/ih Attm'ney Patented Aug. 13, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a door stop, the general object of the invention being to provide means for preventing slamming of doors without preventing the door from fully closing, and to provide means for preventing sagging of the door and to permit the door to -close without making any noise.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference Will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in winch:-
Figure 1 is a view of the upper portion of a door frame and door, showing one of the devices in use.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary enlarged view, with a part of the door in section and the frame in elevation.
Flgure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure l.
In this drawing, the letter A indicates a part of the door frame and the letter B apart of the door, and in carrying out my invention I provide a tapered member i with its wide or large end formed with or connected to an elongated base 2 which is adapted to be fastened by screws 3 or the like to the jamb or inner wall of the frame, with the member I projecting toward the door. A substantially cup-shaped member 4 is fastened to the door by a screw 5 or the like and these parts are so arranged that as the door has almost reached its closed position, the cup-shaped member 4 will receive a part of the member I and then as the door moves fully to closed position the two members will engage each other and thus slamming of the door is prevented and noise of the closing door is eliminated and the suction produced in the cup-shaped member will act to hold the door firmly in place and prevent sag- 5 door.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be 15 made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:-- 20 A door stop comprising a tapered member having a base attached to its wide end and extend ing at right angles to the member, means for fastening the base to a portion of the inner edge of a door frame with the member extending to- 25 wards the door and spaced from the frame, said member and its base being formed of resilient material, a cup-shaped member having its base or closed end adapted to be attached to a door in alinement with the frusto-conical member for 30 receiving said member just as the door is moving to closed position, said cup-shaped member being formed of resilient material and having its interior of cylindrical shape and its exterior wall sloping from the closed. end inwardly to its open 35 end, whereby the wallthickness decreases from the closed end to the open end.
