Description

H. KOSES GARMENT HANGER Jan. 2, 1951 Filed Jan. 12, 1948 HVVENTUR. Harry K05 Patented Jan. 2, 1951 UNITED STATES TENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a hanger adapted to suspend garments and which is easily mountable in and demountable from a window sash, such as the sash of an automobile window.
It is an object of the invention to provide a simple hanger or hook, which can be easily and securel mounted in a sash of a window, such as an automobile window, for hanging garments and the like.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a device for hanging garments and the like, which is easily and readily adiustable to be accommodated within and securely attached to the sash of a window of an automobile.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description and claims.
The device of the invention comprises two rod-like members, and coupling means adapted to receiving opposing ends of the rod-like members and operative t var the distance between the opposing ends and thus the total length of the assembly; and each of the said rod-like members is provided with a shoulder spaced a suit able distance from the coupling means and adapted to engage the sash of a window, and one of said rods is also provided with an outwardly or horizontally extending member adapted to receive the wire hook of a conventional garment hanger.
The invention will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the coupling member in cross section and showing the device engaging a window sash.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device of the invention in place in an automobile window and suspending a garment from a conventional hanger.
Referring now to the figures of the drawing, there is provided a turnbuckle, l, which may be of conventional construction, provided at one end with a right-hand thread and at the opposite end with a left-hand thread; a rod 2 threaded at one end so as to be screwable into one end of turnbuckle I, and provided at the opposite end with a ball 3 for engaging the socket 4 of a bracket 5, which latter extends more or less horizontally and is provided at its outer end with an upwardly extending portion or hook 6 to prevent slippage of a hanger hook. Secured to the shoulder of bracket 5 adjacent the ball and socket joint is a shoulder or gripping member 1 provided with an upturned flange 8. Threaded into the opposite end of turnbuckle l is another, shorter threaded rod l5 carrying a similar shoulder or gripping member l6 at its opposite end, said shoulder being provided with a down-turned flange l1.
In operation, and as shown more clearly in Figs. 2 and 3, the rods 2 and I5 are threaded into turnbuckle l a sufiicient distance to allow shoulders l and E6 to fit loosely over the top and bottom members 29 and 2!, respectively, of a window sash and to cause flanges 8 and I! to extend into the crevices 22 and 23 between the sash and the window pane. Turnbuckle l is then rotated to spread rods 2 and i 5 apart until shoulders I and I6 firmly engage the top and bottom members, respectively, of the window sash.
It will be apparent that the device of the invention provides a simple but effective means of providing a hanger for hanging garments in an automobile window. It will also be apparent that the device can be very economically constructed from standard hardware items such as rod, turnbuckles and sheet metal, and that the parts can be readily assembled.
Having thus described m invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garment hanger for demountable support between opposite frames of a window comprising a pair of axially aligned rods, extensible and eentractible means joining said rods, a rigidly secured member carried by one of said rods for engaging a window frame, a member pivotally secured to the other rod for engaging an opposite window frame, said pivotal securement comprising a ball and socket joint, and a garment hook carried by one of said members.
2. A garment hanger for demountable support between opposite frames of a window comprising a pair of axially ali ned rods, extensible and contractible means joining said rods, a rigidly secured member carried by one of said rods for engaging a window frame, a member pivotally secured to the other rod for engaging an opposite window frame, said pivotal securement comprising a ball and socket joint, both of said engaging meinbers including outwardly turned flanges adapted to seat between the frame and a window mounted therein, and a garment hook carried by one of said members.
