Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ALBERT S. DENNISON, OF WATEBTOWN, NEW YORK.
\MPRCVEMENT IN PAPER BAGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. {89,342, dated April 10, 1877; application filed October 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. DENNISON, of Watertown, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in. Paper Bags; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to paper bags; and consists of a wire bail constructed for application to the bag in such a way as to securely fasten the mouth of-the bag, and at the same time serve all the purposes of a bail.
In the application of my invention I take wire of any size suited to that of the bags upon which it is to be used. This I cut diagonally into proper lengths, so as to leave sharpened ends for the easier perforation of the paper in the application of the bail to the bag.
The bails may be made ready for use, as shown in Figure l, and may have the ends partially bent for insertion in the bag. 1
The bag may be folded down, as shown in Fig. 2, in order to more effectually close the mouth, and to give a firmer hold for the wire.
The ends b bet the wire, after being thrust through, are bent down securely upon the paper, thus rendering secure both the folded end and thehold of the wire bail upon the bag. This improved bail may be furnished at a trifling expense with the ordinary paper bag, and may be easily and quickly applied, closing the mouth of the bag as efi'ectually, and, more speedily, than can be done by twine, and having the additional advantage of the bail.
I claim as my invention- 1. A bail for paper bags, formed with poin ted ends, and adapted for application to the bag, so as to close the end and serve for a bail, as set forth.
2. A bail for paper bags, formed with pointed ends, inserted through the two sides at the mouth of the bag, and bent to hold the mouth closed and to secure the bail to the bag, as set forth.
ALBERT s. DENNISON.
