SEAL FOR BAGS.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM D. KENYON, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Sack-Sealer, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved sack-sealer. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal section of the sealer detached from the sack; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the sealer, showing the position of the seal, the cord, and the sack.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective device for sealing sacks used for various purposes, but more especially for those containing coin.
My invention consists in a spool having a body of small diameter and flanges of large diameter, the flanges being recessed or countel-sunk upon the ends of the spool for receiving the sealing-wax and the spool being provided with holes bored obliquely through the flanges to the center of the end of the spool for receiving the cord used in tying the sack, all as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The spool A is provided with a central part a of small diameter and with flanges b of comparatively large diametersay three times the diameter of the part a. The flanges are beveled from the central part a cutwardly', and holes 00' are bored from thebeveled surface of the flange at opposite sides of the spool, which meet at the center of the spool in the recess cl. Both ends of the spool are alike, so that it may be used a second time, if desirable, by reversing it. The spool is inserted in the mouth of the sack B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The cord 6 is wound around the mouth of the sack, forcing the material of the sack into the space between the flanges b b. The cord is tied and one end is passed upwardly through the hole 0 and both ends of the cord at the juncture of the holes 0 0, thereby rendering it impossible to remove the cord or untie the sack without destroying the seal.
The spoolA may be made of wood or other suitable material, and the recess d, in which the wax is received, afiords protection to the seal, so that it is not injured in the ordinary handling of the sack.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A sack-sealer comprising a cylindrical body portion adapted to be secured in the mouth of a sack and provided with a flange recessed on its outer surface to receive sealing-wax and apertured to receive the ends of the string employed in tying the sack, substantially as described.
2. A sack-sealer comprising a cylindrical body portion adapted to be secured in the mouth of a sack and provided with a flange beveled from the body portion outwardly and having oblique apertures to receive the ends of the string employed in tying the sack, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a sacksealer consisting of a spool having a central cylindrical portion and a flange at each end, the said flanges being beveled from the central portion outwardly and each provided with a recess in its outer surface and with inclined apertures, said apertures meeting at the center of the spool, as set forth.
