- the object of my invention is to form a combined shawl-pin and glove-buttoner from a piece of metallic wire of suitable length, by bending the same at one end by any suitable means, in such a manner that it shall form a ring, hook, or loop, for the purpose of buttonin g a glove, or for any other purpose for which such an instrument is generally used, the other end of the wire being pointed, enabling it to be easily inserted into the folds of a shawl or other garment, for the purpose of fastening the same or holding", its folds together, the form of the combined shawl-pin and glove-buttoner being clearly shown in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,276, dated March 13, 1877; application filed November 2, 1875. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSHUA BARNES, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Shawl-Pin and Glove-Buttoner, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawmg.
The object of my invention is to form a combined shawl-pin and glove-buttoner from a piece of metallic wire of suitable length, by bending the same at one end by any suitable means, in such a manner that it shall form a ring, hook, or loop, for the purpose of buttonin g a glove, or for any other purpose for which such an instrument is generally used, the other end of the wire being pointed, enabling it to be easily inserted into the folds of a shawl or other garment, for the purpose of fastening the same or holding", its folds together, the form of the combined shawl-pin and glove-buttoner being clearly shown in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.
I do not confine myself to the exact form of shawl-pin and glove-buttoner, as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing, but modify it somewhat by the formation of a loop at one end of the piece of metallic wire, as may be found most desirable, which modification is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing.
I claim as my invention The combined shawlpin and glove-buttoner, provided with a point at one end and an open book or loop at the other, substantially as described and shown.
