To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY V. QUINN, a citizen of the United States of America, and
- a resident of the city of Seattle, in the county able objects in view, the invention resides in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and succinctly defined in the appended claims.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is an end view of a bench or pew, a portion of the back thereof being shown in section, having the present invention secured thereto and supporting an umbrella. showing my improvement applied in a different manner to a suitable support. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of my invention, and Fig. 4 shows my invention secured to the back of a bench or pew.
The invention comprises a body 1, preferably formed of metal, offset intermediate its ends at 2 and having one end portion formed with a hook 3 and its other with an angularly disposed tongue or lip 4. Offset ortion 2 is formed with an opening 2 throug which the cord 5 projects. This cord is prevented from being drawn through the opening 2 by a suitable stop, which as now considered consists of a knot 6 formed in said cord. The inner end portion of cord 5 is provided with a tack or nail 7.
To one side of the offset portion 2, body 1 is formed with a key hole slot 8 and on the molding strip as illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 2 is a view in perspective other side thereof, with a spring tongue 9 formed by forcing metal of body 1 outwardly as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
In operation, when the bench or pew, as
10, has a strip of molding 11 along the upper edge of its back, my invention can be secured in position by slipping tongue 4 under said WVhen thus secured cord 5 is passed around the handle of the umbrella or cane and then secured under tongue 9.
' When there is no molding strip along the upper edge of the back of the bench or pew my device can be secured in either of the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 4 by means of the tack or nail 7 which is engaged in keyhole slot 8.
In lieu of long cords 5 illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4 which are adapted to be wrapped around the handle of the umbrella or cane I may employ elastic cords, shown in Figs. -2 and 3, whose outer portions are formed in short loops for reception of the article to be supported.
Hook 3 affords a convenient means for supporting hand bags or the like as is obvious.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is:
1. A device of the type set forth comprising a body having an angularly disposed tongue at one end, a second tongue projecting outwardly from the opposite end of said body, and flexible means secured to said body and being adapted to be engaged with said last named tongue, for the purpose specified. 2. A device of the type set forth comprising a body formed with a key hole slot, a tongue projecting outwardly fromone side face of said body, and a cord secured to said body intermediate its ends and provided in oneend with a tack, for the purpose specified.
3. A device of the type set forth comprising a body offset intermediate its ends and formed with an opening in said offset portion, a cord projecting through said opening of the offset portion of said body, said body on one side of said offset portion being formed With a key hole slot and on the other body and adapted to have its free side thereof being rovided with a tongue secured to said tongue.
