UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE O. HENNING, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HUNTlNG-VESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,052, dated March 6, 1877; application filed June 9, 1876.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. HENNING, of Washington, in the county of Washington and District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Re versible Hunting Goats or Vests; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a front and back view of the garment. Fig. 2 is a view of the strap-yoke. Fig. 3 is a side view, and Fig. 4 is a view of two sections united.
This invention relates to a hunting-garment so constructed that it may be worn with either side in front and yet fit the person of the wearer the same either way, and is for the purpose of carrying cartridges for firearms, both before and behind; and when the cartridges in front shall have become exhausted, by unbuttoning the front or rear and changing the yoke-strap from one side to the other, the rear part with its loaded cartridges will be brought in front, and the empty ones placed behind.
In the drawing, A A represent two sections of the coat, vest, or other garment for carrying cartridge-pouches. There are four of these sections made precisely alike. On the edges A A are large buttons, and the edges A are to be sewed together. The scallops a a will then be joined at a a, so as to form the sleeve-hole, as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 4.. On one side, at b, is a button, to which is attached the shoulder-strap yoke B, made T-shaped, having button-holes at each extremity. The holes I) b are madeforthe buttons b on each shoulder, and b to be attached to the top button 0 of the back row. On each section are the pouches D D, arranged in any manner to suit the garment and convenience of the wearer for handling the cartridges. In the present case, the entire garment is covered with such pouches, and the lower part or skirts have game-bags on the inside. The yoke strap B, made T-shaped, may be arranged in any other manner or form, may be of a triangular shape or to fit the opening behind.
This garment has no sleeves, and can be worn over a vest having sleeves, or an ordinary coat orjacket for hunting. The garment being made of similar sections, it is evident that whatever way it may be Worn it will be the same, and will be equally comfortable, and yet preserve somewhat the shape of the wearers figure.
I am aware that a reversible vest is not new, and also that vests of ordinary construction have been provided with suitable pockets for holding cartridges, and such I do not claim, broadly; but
What I do claim is- As a new article of manufacture, a reversible vest, constructed of four similar sections, A, fastened together as represented, and having the several series of independent cartridgepockets or pouches D arranged upon each side of the front and back, respectively, and provided with game-pouches D on the inside, all substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE O. HENNING.
Witnesses:
